Mediocre, Slow

Posted on 03 / 18 / 2014

I hate to give this place a so-so rating but really, it kind of is so-so. Their food is good, provided you get it fresh and hot (this has yet to happen for me), and the service is..well.. it is volutneer-run, not to talk bad about volunteers but don't expect great service from these volunteers. I think they do the best they can with the huge lunch-rushes.

If you do venture over try the dish that has coconut rice and the crispy mini-gluten rolls (im not sure what it's called, it has a sweet sauce though). The prices are very nice!

Pros: Price, Location
Cons: Quality, Service

Fast and affordable lunch in the heart of downtown

Posted on 12 / 11 / 2013

This little lunch cafe is hosted in the basement of a Buddhist temple, and gains it's clientele almost exclusively by word-of-mouth. When customers arrive, they are greeted at the door by a person who collects $6 cash from each person in exchange for a lunch ticket which includes gratuity. The ticket lets you choose any item from the menu. The cafe itself is in the basement, but it is tidy and warm. The helpful and friendly servers are all volunteers, and the menu selection is quite good, consisting of a number of soups, noodle and rice dishes. Portions are large, and the food is flavorful and fresh. This is probably the most affordable veggie lunch in Edmonton's downtown! The service and food is delivered quickly enough that I can go here from my work and make it back within the hour. If you haven't checked it out yet, consider this your invitation!

Pros: very affordable, friendly staff, plentiful, delcious food
Cons: cash only, a little difficult to find
