Best falafel in nelson

You get a huge pitta full of tasty stuff. The falafel is amazing, you can choose your spice level. It's was so much better than I expected it to be. The vegan one is called vegetarian falafel.

The best falafel in Nelson!

Friendly family business for over 20 years, I believe. They are interested in asking where people come from, who come and try their pitas (if not too busy! 😃). Love the tahini sauce on their pita. 🙂

Crispy falafel

Nothing creative or adventurous about eating here. However, the food tasted fresh, and it was the first time I found good falafel in New Zealand. Doubtless there are other good falafel joints in the country, and I probably just had had a streak of bad luck. Nonetheless, the texture and spice at this place were spot on.

Pros: Good falafel , Limited seating

Cons: A bit expensive

Yummy falafel meal

We ordered the vegetarian falafel pita which is actually vegan, $16 for a large. Yummy fresh flavours.

Pros: Large portion

1 veggie falafel available

I wouldn't say the choice is overwhelming... there's 1 vegetarian falafel available, and there's no vegan version of the sauce which makes it rather dry. I didn't found it that cheap either, for just a simple falafel, but I guess that's NZ for you. That said, it was pretty delicious. Would be great if the owner looks into some vegan sauce replacements!

Pros: Only 1 VEGETARIAN option, No vegan sauces, Not really cheap

Cons: Central

easy lunch

Friendly staff. Shared platter with my non-vegan dad who ate the feta and joghurt dip. The rest was vegan and super tasty. Also had a nice coffee with almond milk

Great vegan falafel pita

As others have said - great to drop in for a quick vegan pitta (just “falafel pitta” on the menu) without having to make any special considerations. Reasonably priced and very filling for a meal.

Ruined my day

I think "staff are familiar with what is vegan" is a stretch. Went here and ordered the falafel pita - vegan. The girl informed me it was vegan so that was great. But then I was waiting for my food and I saw the staff putting a lot of yoghurt into a pita and then putting salad on top of it and mixing it with the salad spoon, at this point the salad spoon was clearly covered in yoghurt. I asked the staff if the food is alright for someone with dairy intolerance (I am lactose intolerant as well as vegan, doesn't really become a problem when eating vegan). The guy who seemed like the boss/owner then said to me "Well you should have said that before, If you have an allergy go somewhere else, clearly everything mixes here" in a very aggressive and pissed off tone. Ive never received such a rude response since I was just trying to make sure I didn't get sick (in a polite way). So I wouldn't classify Falafel Gourmet as having "vegan options"... because my definition of vegan includes no yoghurt. If they aren't worried about cross contaminating yoghurt for vegans it also made me question if they care about meat crossing with falafel. Anyhow 0/5 would recommend for anyone with any kind of dietary requirement.

Pros: Supporting Local economy

Cons: Not good for people with dietary requirements, Rude to customers, He literally told me to go away

amazing food

This cute little cafe was exactly what we were craving and was very filling! We ordered the Mediterranean falafel plate which was amazing! You can easily make it vegan by taking out the feta also the best falafels you will ever eat I guarantee!!!

Pros: large portions , best falafels I’ve ever eaten, good service

Cons: needs more vegan options
