great vegan food available

Went there for lunch and the daily soup and meal were both vegan. Loved the carrot cocoanut soup and bread with hummus. Would go back again. There is no market in the front like description says on happy cow.

Pros: good food, great proportions
Cons: expensive- but it is Iceland!

Great food

The food was excellent. Unfortunately the place closes super early so it took a few tries before I was able to get food here. The food its self is great, but the price for the portions were a bit on the pricey side.

Pros: excellent food, nice staff
Cons: closes early, pricey

A Sri Chinmoy restaurant in Iceland

3
Posted on 03 / 30 / 2015

This is a small cafe with a rotating menu with one soup and one entree offered daily - the menu for the week is posted in advance on the door. Some vegan options are available. There are a few vegan sweets and baked goods including a vegan brownie, coffee bite (like a small fudge piece), and snickers treat. It's a very pleasant and peaceful environment particularly if you are familiar with the Sri Chinmoy restaurants(i.e. Silence-Heart-Nest in Fremont Seattle, Annam Brahma in New York or Consciousness Blossoms, Florida).

Pros: Vegan baked goods, Vegan soups/entrees, Friendly staff
Cons: Rotating Menu, Small Selection

Good food!

Small, restful restaurant in Reykjavik city center. Daily changing menu and family atmosphere. Tasty healthy food for a reasonable price. As far as I have experienced the menu the food is pretty low in fat.
There is nothing very special about this place though.

Pros: healthy and tasty, daily changing menu, reasonable prices
Cons: nothing exceptional

Wonderful start to trip

Posted on 02 / 14 / 2015

We arrived in the late afternoon in February and were pleased to be staying just down from here. We have a wonderful warming meal of tomato soup and veg goulash with salad. Reasonably priced by Icelandic standards, and very welcoming. Be aware of the opening hours, it's generally not open in the evening.

Pros: Welcoming staff, Reasonably priced, Cosy
Cons: Not open in evening

Best Meal in Reykjavík

Posted on 01 / 10 / 2015

For our vegetarian threesome touring in Reykjavík, this restaurant gave our family the best meal of our trip.

Iceland is not a vege- heaven, but this place is an angelic find. Simple menu, but well executed. I wish they had dinner hours.

This nice little place has a new soup/main dish menu every day that promotes veggie dishes from all over the world. We went there twice during our short visit and were very happy with both options! The staff is very friendly!

Cafe AND health-food store

5
Posted on 06 / 04 / 2014

This little cafe is lovely plus I believe the health food store next door is also theirs (this store is slightly bigger than the other a few doors down and appears to have more selection, but pricey!).

The staff spoke English well and we had a different vegan option each day. This place is popular so if you towards the end of the day, you may find they have sold out, so don't go at the last minute if you are vegan as the option may be gone =)

We had soup one day and a curry/stew the other- both were lovely. Plus we tried their snickers vegan dessert also- yummy! They have a chiller for desserts and items are clearly labelled vegan/gluten free etc =)

As mentioned, they put up a sign in the window laying out their whole weekly menu, so you can decide what days you like and plan around that which is useful!

Pros: good vegan options, yummy vegan treats, friendly staff

We went for lunch and got the daily soup and bread. The soup was delicious and just what we needed to warm up. The bread was soft and good with hummus or butter.

Small but perfectly formed

An excellent small veggie cafe in the city centre. Had a special on each day, which seems to be the only main meal. The curry I had was nice although quite tame. This is usually the case when dealing with a variety of "heat tolerances" i suppose. nice and clean and nice staff too. Would defintely go back. The smallest of the veggie place in town.

Pros: Clean and Friendly, Nice food
Cons: limited choice

Closed for summer vacation

3
Posted on 09 / 03 / 2013

Just a tip if anyone else is trying to go here: they are closed until 14 September for a vacation.

If you see a sign for a vegetarian restaurant down the street, that "vegetarian" restaurant serves meat. FYI.

Cute vegetarian cafe

Ecstasy's Heart Garden is an all-vegetarian cafe run by the followers of Sri Chinmoy. His followers run vegetarian restaurants all over the world and this was actually one of the better ones I've been to. The food was healthful and tasty. They had multiple vegan options that day and a few vegan desserts. They also had great coffee and soy milk.

Pros: Daily vegan options, Vegan desserts, Good coffee
Cons: Limited vegan options

Great food, friendly atmosphere

Visited here in May 2013 and the food was lovely. There is a limited choice on offer - every day there is one soup and one main course in addition to the cakes and coffees served. The list for the week is posted in the window, so if you don't fancy what's on offer that day you can move on without embarassment. And if you're in town for a few days you can choose which day's food you like the look of best, and go on that day! You can have soup, main, or both, each in a large or small serving. The small soup plus main was about right for me, my partner (who generally eats more than I do) found the large portions filled him up. Soup is served with bread and either butter or hummus, and mains come with a vegetable side plus green salad. Some previous reviewers mention a lack of English - we found that all the staff spoke excellent English. The chocolate cake (gluten-free!) was to die for!

Vegan Desserts

Yum, this place had a vegan Snickers dessert that was amazing. It seems like the menu changes daily and although we didn't have a chance to eat a full meal here, we sure enjoyed the dessert.

at this tiny restaurant without many choices, the vegan option i had was decent and not that expensive. also, only one person on staff spoke english, so communicating was a bit limited. overall, it was a pleasant experience.

Pros: good price, decent food
Cons: not all vegan, limited menu

Super cute rotating meal place

4
Posted on 06 / 27 / 2011

Each day they have a different special (meaning that's all you can order, aside from baked goods) They post their intended food schedule for the week on the door. Oddly, English isn't spoken there! The best deal is to get the double order $1500 korna and split it between two people (that is assuming both items of the day are vegan)

Pros: great food, cute place
Cons: expensive, only two items per day

Lovely small place close to the centre of town. Tranquil atmosphere and the staff were well aware of what was vegan. Food was good and the menu seems to vary daily. More cafe than upmarket restaurant but the food was top-notch.

Pros: Vegan-friendly, Food, Atmosphere

pleasant meal

Cute little cafe with a small menu that changes daily. I went once and had the 1/2 soup, 1/2 plate option, both were delicious and the soup came with bread & hummus. The soup was a tasty African sweet potato, and the meal was a basic ratatouille with rice. The vegan dessert option that day was a brownie, which was very moist & tasty, perhaps sweetened with ground dates. The people were very kind and helpful, the food was lovingly prepared.

Pros: healthy food, kind people, good price
Cons: not 100% vegan, only one menu choice daily

The Best vegetarian place in Iceland

5
Posted on 06 / 18 / 2008

This family-runned vegetarian bisness opened in 2000. It's located in the heart of Reykjavik, on Klapparstígur. It's open from 11-17 on weekdays, and 12-17 on Saturdays, closed on Sundays. Here you can enjoy the best soups in Iceland for only 750 kronur or half a soup for 500 kronur. The soup comes with speltbread and hummus or butter. There is also the dish of the day for about 1150 kronur. They also have cakes, and I recommend the caramel cake, it's so delicous!! It's cozy, relaxing, cheap, has good service, and the soups..mmm.. the cake...try it!

Pros: Excellent soups, good value, friendly staff

Cons: vegan not marked

Ecstasy's Heart-Garden, Reykjavik

4
Posted on 09 / 09 / 2006

Oct 2002 when I was in this place. From the city centre it's located up the hill kind of towards the big church. It was the only vegetarian place I was aware of in Reykjavik so I was happy to eat there most lunch times. The offering consisted of a short set daily menu. A small cosy place with prices that were less expensive than other places I went to in Reykjavik. I'd have no isues in eating in this place again.

Pros: Pleasant, Cosy, Fairly central location
Cons: Limited choice
