vegan ice cream parlor!!!

DF Mavens is a newish ice cream parlor in the East Village that serves vegan ice cream and related desserts. AH-MAZ-ING! The first time we went, we got chocolate and green tea in a cone. So delicious! The second time we got sugar free chocolate and pistachio. The sugar free chocolate was very good, but it seemed to be water based and a lot softer as compared to the pistachio, which was definitely creamier. The chocolate was put in the vegan hazelnut come first, so it melted more quickly and softened the cone, which ultimately broke in my hand and dropped everywhere. It was a delicious mess. That's my only complaint!!! The hazelnut cone was so yummy. I want to try an ice cream sandwich made with vegan cookies next time!!! Will definitely be back soon.

Pros: many flavors!, Ice cream sandwiches!

Meh...

I hate to give dismal reviews to vegan establishments and the service at DF Mavens was very nice but the ice cream was way off for me. I got the cardamom and peanut butter flavors and I ended up throwing both into the trash less than half way through. If you know me then you know that almost never happens because I absolutely love vegan ice cream!

The problem for me was that the ice cream was extremely thick, it stuck to the roof of my mouth when I was trying to eat it. I'm not sure if I got a batch from the previous day or what but it just wasn't edible for me. My husband did like the sorbet he got but after spending what I would consider a good amount of money on ice cream I expected something exceptional.

Pros: All Vegan, Friendly Service, Good Location

Cons: Needs more Seating , Flavors

Green Tea Vegan Ice Cream!!!

This is the FIRST place I've found vegan green tea ice cream. It's delicious here too. I've also had their coconut milk based vanilla ice cream. I haven't been vegan too long, so I still remember the taste of dairy ice cream, and can say there's is a bit lighter and has a hint of coconut taste but was pretty close. I look forward to coming back here and trying more flavors!

I am so happy they exist and have green tea ice cream.

Pros: vegan green tea ice cream

Cons: kinda pricey

Screams of delight don't do this place justice

C'mon vegans - you know that you love frozen desserts, and when non-vegans are out and about for fro yo or hand dipped deliciousness, you secretly yearn for as many options as they have... then you remember that there was this place in NYC called DF Mavens that you visited and now need to go back to devour all their amazing vegan options.

This is the place you wish could replace every non-vegan ice creamery the world over.... because you know that everyone in this shop is not vegan, and everyone eating in this shop or leaving while eating frozen desserts from this shop is amazingly happy.

For those who say: "Oh, I don't like soy"... ok, go for the coconut or almond, soy haters. For those who say: "Coconut is too fatty".... ok, so just go for the almond or soy. For those who say: "I don't eat nuts"... ok, go for the coconut or soy. Geez. For those who say: "I don't like vegan, gluten-free"... make them try this stuff, and they will shut up, because their mouths will be overly busy eating these divine desserts.

Vanilla, chocolate, coffee and berry, for the traditionalists. Some fresh fruity flavors for those so inclined, like the beautiful mango or blackberry. Some nice mixes of almond mocha or cookies and cream. So darned good, no one who is honest about the flavor offerings here can say vegan gluten-free is inferior to the "traditional" dairy stuff.

Cone (gluten free) or cup - it's up to you.... but, just a helpful suggestion: go for the cone if you are counting calories, and go for the cup if you want as much as you can possibly eat before exploding.

Also, take them up on the rewards card if you're a local. Locals can also benefit from the freezer cases with pints of the frozen treats or popsicles. Yum.

Beverages if you need them, but maybe you'll wait until after you've eaten your ice cream and think: I need a coffee or water. Amazing vegan offerings! Also some vegan baked goods, too, without wheat, but not gluten free (spelt flour).

There are some nice places to sit by the windows in this spacious store. I just wish they had a cone stand while you are paying. If you like or have ever liked ice cream, do yourself a favor while in NYC and eat here.

Pros: Vegan and gluten-free ice cream and cone, Almond, soy, coconut bases - choices!, Coffee and lattes, too!

Cons: No sundaes, Baked goods/ cookies use spelt flour

Amazing vegan ice cream place

They have so many flavors of vegan ice cream it was impossible to decide which one to get!!! I ended up getting the alphonso mango and it was absolute perfection! They sell vegan baked goods and their ice cream in a carton too. The place is nice and the service is very friendly. New fave vegan spot in NYC!

Pros: perfectionnnn

Dream come true!

This place is amazing. They have so many different flavours of vegan ice cream, made from a variety of bases like soy, almond, and coconut. I tried all three bases and they were all delicious. I think I had mint cookie dough, some kind of caramel flavour, and something else. Whatever they were, they were incredible. And they have different flavours of vegan waffle cones. I haven't had a waffle cone in 15 years! I wish there was a place like this where I live. I am so jealous of vegans who live in New York and can go here whenever they want!!
