We are big co-op fans here. They overcharge for ordinary grocery store items and they're not perfect, but where else in town can you find *selections* of things like tempeh, Soygurt, nut milks, vegan coconut-milk-based ice cream (soooo much better than the soy & rice ice creams) etc. etc? It would be much harder for me to cook veg at home without the Co-op. The Co-op is and feels like a community-based business; it's much more comfortable than the big supermarkets.
The bulk section is also really nice. They have a thorough selection of herbs, spices, and teas, including items that are not sold at the International Store.
There are some minor drawbacks - the meat counter at the back reeks (but I'm sensitive to the smell of raw meat), and the deli has just a few mediocre veg selections (do they taste what they sell?) However, the positives far outweigh the negatives.Pros: Wide selection of veg'n foods, Thorough bulk-food section, Community atmosphere
Cons: High prices on many (not all) items, Stinky meat counter in the back, Veg deli food is mediocre
