Not Vegan-Friendly and Not Good

After reading the reviews here I went for dinner last night with a meat-eating friend thinking there was something here for us both. We ordered onion pakoras which were not like any pakoras I've ever had. Couldn't discern the onion in it even and they were like dough balls. They were also so spicy, they were hard to eat. As for entrees, all entrees come with a tiny cup of dal, rice, raita and naan- none of which are vegan. I asked for a vegan bread substitute and got one piece of oil-soaked, rubbery poori that I couldn't finish and was charged extra for. The women who took my order didn't understand that I wanted no dairy (suggested things with cheese after I told her dairy-free from the veg. menu) and I had to explain myself in several different ways. There was a lot of confusion about what was in the rice, bread, etc. Ultimately, there were only three entrees that were vegan: chana masala, aloo gobi and the okra (only prepared 'dry'). There was no effort, as another reviewer suggested, to veganize anything not among those three choices. i ordered the okra which was so overwhelmingly spicy, I couldn't eat it at all. My companion who has a much higher spice threshold couldn't eat it either. No one ever came by once to ask how our food was. I sat there not eating until someone dropped off our bill and 2, to-go boxes. My friend took my food since I didn't want it and said he doubted he would eat it either. It was a thoroughly terrible meal. I would not go back and would definitely not recommend this place for vegans.

Cons: Poor service, Poor vegan selection

Authentic Indian food

I can highly recommend this place. We ordered many different dishes. They were all amazing and reminded me of the great food we had while travelling through India. Staff was very attentive. Good place to go with omnivore friends & family.

Delicious food

This place has great food. They don't have a separate vegan menu, but they have vegetarian dishes. For vegans like me, it is very hard to go to an Indian restaurant, as most things have milk or ghee. But in this place, they are always very helpful to tell you which plates are vegan, and which ones are usually not but they make vegan. If you go there, you should ask for the vegan version of the mushroom bhajee or bengan bhurtha (eggplant). Their chana masala (also vegan) is to die for. Furthermore, contrary to most Indian restaurants, the food in this place is not very oily. Also, if you ask for vegan, they substitute the nam for rotti, which is made with whole wheat flour. I strongly recommend.

Pros: Great food, Large portions (easy to share)

Cons: Can be crowded
