nice atmosphere, very good (vegan) food

5 Posted on 05 / 07 / 2014

We were welcomed warmly by the very friendly and helpful waitress. She spoke good English, walked us through the buffet explaining what was vegan and what was not and helped us translate the drinking menu. They have a big tea selection and yummy fresh fruit juices as well as soy milk for coffee. The buffet dishes were 90% vegan plus 2 vegan cakes and a chocolate mousse (we were too stuffed for desert though). A delicious evening in a nice atmosphere!

Pros: all-you-can-eat, good value, excellent food
Cons: not completely vegan (but enough options

Very Good Buffet

4 Posted on 10 / 06 / 2013

This restaurant might be the best in Matosinhos Area.
The quality of the food is normaly very good, there are allways 3 main dishes and a soup, diferent kind of starters, salads, and sauces and other stuff to create your own startar / salad or improve the main dish, all of this in a Buffet style so you can eat till you don't want more.
The dessert have diferent price.
Also the drinks, but I recommend tasting the teas since the portion is bigger and there are some good ones.
It's not cheap, it's a bit fancy, the cooker is very nice and normally the other staff.
Costumers tend to be a bit high standard but the place is quite relaxing and modern.

Could have Only vegan options and be less expensive, for that reason It's rare to visit a place such as this one

Pros: Alternative in Matosinhos, Quantity (Buffet)
Cons: Price

The best vegetarian restaurant in the area

5 Posted on 03 / 18 / 2013

The food is great and there are always three different dishes, as well as the salad buffet.
The price varies with time. At lunch it is moderately cheap, at dinner it is more expensive and at dinner on weekends it is yet more expensive. The menu is not the same, however, so you get what you paid for.
The atmosphere is nice and the staff is usually friendly.

Pros: Good food, Friendly staff
Cons: Sometimes vegan options are rare

This is a very good restaurant, with very nice food, with some very good vegan options. It has no non-vegetarien options, but the food is so good (and so much) that no one can complain!

Pros: excellent food, good value, very large portions
Cons: no vegan deserts

A bit fancy but nice food

Nice place. When I went there, it was Saturday, that's when they offer special buffets, more gourmet ones, but it's also when you pay more. Almost everything was vegan fortunately and I liked the food, though it wasn't the healthiest. Unfortunately the desserts are not included into price and there was just one vegan. Very friendly stuff, relaxed ambient and good location - near metro station Matosinhos Sul.

Pros: vegan friendly, nice stuff, location
Cons: price

Da Terra

4 Posted on 06 / 25 / 2008

Located in a street off Av da Republica in central Matosinhos, by Aven Menreres, roughly a 30 minute bus ride from Porto. Matosinhos council seems not too fond of erecting street names, so take a good map or use Google maps to locate the place.

Clean and attractive interior with pleasant ambience. Welcoming, friendly staff. The waiter spoke a little English and called on the chef who spoke more to tell me what offerings were vegan. I visited Da Terra in the evening and for euro 8.50 there was a self-service buffet, of various hot and cold dishes laid out. Greed and hunger motivated me to fill up my plate on the first visit and I found myself unable to finish, but the other diners who seemed to be local, made several trips back and forth and this is a more sensible strategy to avoid waste.

I enjoyed Indian style tofu with spinach, plus quinoa, various salads and miniature polenta pieces. The food was tasty and about 20-25% of the stuff on offer was vegan on the night I went although, sadly no vegan desserts, though soya milk was available for coffee.

Alcohol served, good wine selection and available by the glass as well as the bottle for plonkies/non plonkies amongst us.

From Porto, easily accessible by bus or Metro and well worth the trip. There are limited vegan and veggie options in Porto and the offerings here were tasty and filling. The buffet style means that there'll be at least a few things you would enjoy and if you're a big eater you can really fill up. Very little else like it in the area.

Pros: tasty food, good value, pleasant staff
Cons: no vegan desserts
