When you stop by this place, it is hard to spot. You have to walk up the steps to get there, and it's nestled in between other eateries that have a more prominent presence on MacArthur Boulevard. Plus, there is another Asian restaurant just a hop away on the same side of the street on the same block that many people tend to frequent over Chen's.
Now, aside from that, if you are just looking for traditional Chinese-American takeout, this place will do the trick. They cook the food freshly and quickly, albeit with the Chinese-American flavors of takeout. What's great though, is there is a vegetarian page of food on their menu. It has fake meat and plenty of veggies, like broccoli, green beans, Buddhist veggies, steamed veggies, eggplant and asparagus. Then, you can order the veggies with fake meat that they say is healthy and does not contain egg whites or anything non-vegetable. It is similar to the style of sliced fake meat soy-based pieces rather than individually made chunks. Still, considering the area, it's nice that they have this option.
The prices match the area - $13 for the fake meat dish and $9 for just veggies. It's not exorbitant, but for takeout that I could mimic at home, I'd only go back if I was starving and in the area. The flavors are not too complex, but they aren't awful.
There is some outdoor seating, but inside, there is just about no seating area except for to wait for your food.
Thankfully, the service is kind, the food is fresh and hot, and the portions are generous.
Cons: Americanized flavor/ watered down, Prices slightly high
