Reported permanently closed March 2020. Serves meat, vegan options available. Essentially a veg food restaurant that also offers one meat option. Menu is small and changes monthly. Try the vegan panna cotta or sticky toffee pudding. Previously called Canteen on Clifton Street, the chef remains the same. New name reported Feb 2017.

Recommended for Vegans

I recently visited here after not having been for at least 2 years and I had genuinely forgotten how good it was. There's a limited menu which is changed every 3 weeks (except for the Vegan Sticky Toffee Pudding which thankfully is always on) but don't let the lack of choice put you off.

It's quite a quirky place on a multicultural street and the staff are very friendly, but the most important thing here is the food. It's probably the best Vegan food in Cardiff right now despite not being a specifically Vegan restaurant.

If you haven't been for a while, or you're visiting Cardiff, then book a table.

Pros: Amazing food, Friendly staff

Great 3 course vegan meals

One of the few places where you can eat a 3 course vegan meal. The choice is there, but the food is light enough that you can manage it. We'd all give this 5 stars except they have 1 meat dish on, which is a shame as some people on other tables do eat it and you may have to watch them! Generally people opt for the vegan fayre. Note that you can assume dishes are vegan unless marked with a V for veggie, otherwise you can panic on arrival that it's all veggie - it's not, it's predominately vegan.

There's a small, good enough and cheap selection of wine, but you can also Bring Your Own!

Pros: 3 courses!, Vegan Desserts, Bring Your Own wine option

Cons: Take street number with you to find it

One of my favorites

The Canteen is unimposing on the outside, in an upcoming part of Cardiff that hasn't got up to where its going yet. However, although it looks a little downmarket on the outside, the story inside is very different.
Wayne, the social worker/chef with the bandana has taken a well worn old cafe premises and freshened it up. Its not posh, but its clean, comfortable and welcoming.
The real beauty of this place, though, is in the food. The menu is small, eclectic, very varied and changes monthly. There really is something to suit everyones taste buds here, and there are vegan options on most dishes, plus a token meat dish for your carniverous friends.
Prices are very reasonable for food of this quality and drinks are reasonably priced or you can bring your own.
In my view, this is the best veggie food in Cardiff. Highly recommended.

Pros: Excellent food, Sensible prices, Warm and friendly welcome

Cons: Not posh enough for snobs

Best Veggie Food in Cardiff

Been here a few times and the food is always AMAZING. There's always vegan options and a token meat dish to satisfy any carnivorous friends you may have brought along, also options for coeliacs. It's worth checking opening times and booking a table before you go. Well priced: £10 - £15ish for 2-3 courses.

Pros: Great Food, Good Price

Cons: Bit out of the way, Only open some days

Friendly and good

Nice, smart cafe/restaurant in Splott - and if you're there in the day wander up the street to Hungry Planet for vegan and organic groceries. Mostly vegan but have one meat dish in the evening. Lunchtime veg fajita - tasty and £2.95, very good value.
