Radical bookstore with a fair trade coffee bar that offers vegan pastries, organic fair trade zapatista coffee and tea. An anarchist, volunteer powered community space, and animal rights oriented store. Hosts events on food justice, sustainable agriculture, and animal rights. Also runs a feminist, locavore CSA. Cafe drinks and baked goods still offered, July 2012. Use of dairy milk reported in Feb 2021. Confirmed closed with plans to relocate, Feb 2021 - please send updates.

Interesting bookstore but not vegan - Edit
It’s OK. But they serve non vegan milk which is disappointing if they do hold animal rights events (I’m not even sure they do). I am also unaware that any pastries are available. Travel here for the bookstore and the alternative vibes, but don’t necessarily expect a snack.

Nice Bookshop - Edit
I visited recently. The bookshop has a nice selection focused on very specific social-justice issues (feminism, LGBT, racial issues and others), as well as periodicals. They do serve coffees but the vegan snacks were very minimal - so nice bookshop but not really a vegan cafe.

Great bookstore - Edit
Super bookstore with a lot of literature if you are interested in left wing politics. It is false that there is a big section on animal activism, veganism, etc. But there is a lot of other great things. A place where you can sit, read a book and have a vegan cookie. Books are though not particularly cheap. -normal bookstore prices.

Cons: not so cheap books, not so much on veganism

Amazing bookstore - Edit
Great bookstore with a really good selection plus vegan brownies and biscuits. The guys there are friendly and I could spend hours going through their bookshelves.

Out of vegan pastries but great book store - Edit
This place has a lot of great books on all sorts of progressive topics. Staff were really nice. They had tea and coffee but were out of the vegan pastries.

Cafe closed, but great bookstore - Edit
Visited in March 2011 and they are not serving food or drink until at least July, but this is a great bookstore so well worth a visit.

Great grassroot bookstore, nice coffeeshop! - Edit
I really enjoyed the place - and yes, it's kind of a non-corporate version of a starbucks in a leftist bookstore. They have soy milk for the coffee and also vegan cookies - and of course a wide range of books about veganism (and many other topics.)

mostly food for thought, but some food for stomach - Edit
Yes, this is a bookstore but Bluestockings has a small cafe featuring snacks (mostly pastries) and coffee and tea. It's all organic and vegan; the anarcha-feminist collective that runs the store is committed to ecology, vegetarianism, and animal rights, as well as the broader overall project of total social transformation. As such, it's a nice place to drop by, chill out, socialize. Buy a book and a coffee! I'd rather throw my money in their direction than at Starbucks.
