Black Sheep Cafe

Overall rating: 3.0 stars 2 Reviews
Serves meat, veg options available. Contemporary Southwestern Native American cuisine that's predominately meat but vegetarians could have the portobello burger, navajo taco, fries (ask if same fryer). Has cactus pear lemonade. Vegans should specify as honey and dairy is used. The menu draws from the Navajo, Hidatsa, Hopi, and Mandan tribes. Hip vibe with a silversmith shop off the side of the restaurant. Black Sheep

3 Posted on 01 / 10 / 2013

I've been down to Black Sheep a few times since they've opened. The ambiance in the restaurant is really great, and they have really nice staff, but what is and isn't entirely vegan is a little bit harder to figure out. The staff isn't very competent on the subject. The Navajo Taco is really great, but you have to be sure to ask for vegan beans, the regular ones are cooked with meat. Also I have dreams about the prickly pear vinaigrette, probably my favorite thing on the menu. Prices are a little high, but are very reasonable for lunch.

Great for vegetarians, not so much for vegans

Black Sheep Cafe has quite a few vegetarian options.

Though the menu says some vegetarian options can be made vegan, vegan options are limited and the staff doesn't know hardly anything about vegan diets. The portobello burger wasn't good at all and was served between two tortillas with no sauce. The Navajo taco was pretty good, and the cactus pear lemonade is delicious.

The staff seems to know little about vegan diets and wasn't sure what was and wasn't vegan. They went to ask the staff multiple times about different things.

Pros: Interesting cuisine
Cons: Not so good for vegans, Staff not very knowledgeable
