Decent but not bad - Edit
I ordered the guacamole tacos with their handmade puffy tortillas. I added tofu onto them and it came with two. The tacos were pretty good. Nothing astonishing but I would eat the again. Guacamole was very flavorful.
Read moreThe taco special comes with a tortilla, chips and salsa and a guacamole salad or soup as well. The salsa was good however they only brought out a teeny cup with maybe 3 tablespoons of salsa. The cup was so small you could barely fit a chip in it to scoop salsa out. It was a little comical. They could definitely give more. The guacamole salad was pretty good. Just lettuce, guac and tomatoes but flavorful.
The rice was a brown rice which lacked flavor and all stuck together. I would probably rather not eat it and save the calories since it did nothing for me. The refried beans were also fine, but again lacked a lot of flavor.
This is a “healthy” Mexican restaurant so I don’t think they use salt and is probably why some things lacked flavor.
My dish was $13 after adding the tofu which I think is a good price for everything I got. I would maybe come back here if ever in the area. Lots of seniors in the restaurant I believe because of the low sodium and everyone seemed to k ow everyone so that was sweet.

Delicious Vegetarian Tex-Mex - Edit
Eating at Adelante is a unique dining experience! Not only is the food delicious and healthy, the decor is a feast for your eyes! Mexican folk art, colorful paper mache sculptures, collections of globes and alter candles fill the dining area. There’s a lot of vegetarian options along with some vegan dishes. Homemade tortillas, tamales, and salsa are great ! Food is freshly prepared and served by friendly wait staff. This restaurant is locally owned and accepts cash and checks only.

lacks taste but choices - Edit
Tacos had tons of veggies but no flavor beans or anything. Broccoli and mushrooms in a tortilla. Vegan tamales were off. The frozen dinner ones are better. The chalupas are actually just tostadas. Waitress said we just “call them chalupas”. People were friendly and has shredded chicken for Omni friends but there better places out there for sure.

SO GOOD - Edit
This place was amazing! There were tons of vegan options and even more vegetarian options. The owner was working in the kitchen and plenty of regulars stopped by to say hello during the meal. She clearly connected with the people that frequented.
Read moreMy parents came to visit me while in San Antonio for work and my dad suggested the spot. We'd never been before so we tried a little of everything. My cousin and dad aren't vegan and there were options for them My mom and I split two dishes that were served with salad and chips and salsa. The beans were all vegan! They even had Daiya cheese to top the dishes. I'd highly recommend the tamales.
I'm excited to go back and try the tofu filling on my next trip to San Antonio.
Pros: Options! , Friendly and informed staff, Super yummy!
Cons: Chips and Salsa weren't free, Chips weren't stellar

Out of towners probably wouldn't go back - Edit
"Non-refried" beans were good (tasted refried). The guac had a good taste but it almost seemed like it was squeezed out of a bag.
Read moreThe theme and decor was pleasing and authentic.
The salsa was NOT good.
Though I can appreciate a restaurants attempt to make a dish healthier, I feel as though they could have been a little more creative in terms of their use of spicing/flavoring...
Tofu was bland.
Would give a 2.5 out of 5
Cons: Salsa

Healthiest Mexican in Town! - Edit
When I choose Mexican, this is my "go to" choice for both flavor and quality! Fun and colorful, the only negative is that ey do not accept credit cards. Be sure to have cash on you!

A favorite local place for years! - Edit
This place is the best Mexican restaurant in San Antonio, and for vegetarians this is a true world class restaurant! Adelante serves authentic Mexican food with variety to please almost everyone. The entrée choices range from less spice, salt and fat (some would say bland, I would say simple and basic) to the most incredible Poblano pepper enchilada you'll ever have. Their sweet potato fries ordered with queso dip make for a wonderful appetizer. The Adelante puffy tacos are fantastic; they are fried in canola oil so they are light and relatively healthy. Things I wish Adelante would change: I wish the guacamole was more consistent, some days it is great and other days it is just ok. Also their basic salsa served with the chips is a roasted pico de gallo salsa, so you have to order a side of fresh pico de gallo if you don't like roasted salsas.
