Great place!

This place took a lot of finding but it was definitely worth it. The staff didn't speak English and the menu was only in Chinese but you just choose something you like and off you go! They have wifi so if you are struggling with your order you can google the translation first if necessary. I had to do this to get a beer. The staff are really friendly and the food is good, solid, tasty fare. I had a couple of dishes and they brought a cold dish on the side. They also give you some free Chinese tea.
It's a good, honest food experience, and most welcome if you have had the soul-destroying experience of eating at a place like Pure Lotus where they just seem intent on separating you from your money.
It is a bit hard to find, basically between the back of the bus stops and the higher level of the Zhubang 2000 buildings, there is a lower level, on the street, facing the bus stops. It is there, in front of the second of the two buildings as you walk along. Either down one level from the car park or the bus stops. The sign is in English also but probably best to get the restaurant name and address in Chinese in case you have trouble finding it.
Enjoy!

Pros: Friendly staff, Good food, Wifi

Cons: Beer wasn't cold (not a major problem), Hard to find (for me (but worth it))

Fresh and nice

The restaurant is small, filled with sturdy wooden furniture and live plants. Staff speaks no English, but is very friendly. When we ate here one person was working in the restaurant, and one in the kitchen.

We were welcomed with a glass off sweet ice tea and received a picture menu with text in Chinese. Main dishes cost around 25 RMB, rice is an additional 1 RMB. The vegetables in our food was tasty and fresh, and so the seitan and tofu. We especially liked broccoli, which was prepared in a for us mysterious way that gave it a very interesting consistence. Portions are medium sized with plenty of protein.

Pros: Plenty of protein, Nicely prepared vegetables, Friendly staff

Great, unpretentious snack spot

I had a bit of trouble finding it since I thought it was part of the 2000 building itself (it's past it, in a street-level section of shops). Friendly owners - they don't speak any English though, despite the name. Great home-cooked staples with a northern touch, as the cook is from Shangdong. Recommended for anyone in the area.

Pros: Home-cooked, Friendly, Cheap

Cons: Hard to find, Limited selection

Tasty, oily, vegan fast food

For a cheap and tasty option, this place is great. The food is pretty oily, but hits the spot. The atmosphere is busy and bustling. No English spoken or on the menu, but you can point to some pictures on the menu.

Pros: Tasty, Cheap

Cons: Oily

Vegan fastfood galore

This little diner serves vegan fast food, like steaks, vegan fried eggs, vegan fish etc. The food is very greasy, even for me who is not a healthy eater. However, I can fully recommend the vegan fried egg dishes, they are unbelievable. This is a place for you who is looking for a filling lunch or a quick bite to eat. It's not a fancy place.

How to get there: 7 pure veggies is situated in the intersection of Chaoyang Lu and 4th ring road. It's next to the bus stop Ciyunsi (慈云寺). Look for the shopping mall called 邦2000食街, it's in the street level, go down the stairs and look for the sign 7 pure veggies.

The staff doesn't speak English, nor is the menu in English, but there are pictures. And believe me, it's all vegan, we asked.

Pros: very inexpensive, vegan fried egg, friendly staff

Cons: very greasy food
