Review: I'm not a masochist but I have eaten at the Brooklyn location about ten times. The service is so bad it's a joke among the regulars, and I'll bet, the staff.
My best off list: I have sat for twenty minutes without a waiter even glancing at me - no menu, no beverage, no greeting - the same for all the people at all the tables around me. Twice. Wrong food delivered cold. Twice. When I could get no service, got up, walked into the kitchen and rifled through cabinets to find sugar for my coffee - staff saw me (including cooks) but no one said a word. I have seen people get up and walk without ever seeing a menu. Seen other people walk after losing hope they'll ever get their drinks...forget the food. I hesitate to call it a restaurant because it lacks a crucial element: you go to a restaurant and ask for food and drinks and then people who work there give it to you. Red Bamboo Brooklyn only marginally does this. The food is okay but really, skip it. If I have lots of time on a weekend I'll suggest it and my wife says "no," and she's right.
Pros: Food's okay * Location * Nice space
Cons: What service? * Dirty * |

Review: What a great little place. I thought the price was totally appropriate for the amount of food that you get, which is a lot! I ordered the Soul Chicken Entree and my only complaint about the food would be that there was a disproportionately smaller amount of potatoes than everything else; but it was all good. The deserts looked good too, but I didn't have enough room left to try any. The staff was fairly inattentive, but it didn't ruin my meal.
Pros: Great Food * Fair Price * Great Selection
Cons: Staff Inattentive * * |

Review: This is the one thing I miss about living in NYC! My favorite all-time restaurant, I have never known any other place to have so many soy-meat options. Even all of my meat-eating friends/family cannot believe how realistic so much of it is. Even though I can understand some of the reviews (for the Manhattan location) saying that it is not the healthiest vegetarian food due to it being very processed much of the time, there are plenty of healthier options on the menu (salads, stir fries, etc). I much prefer the atmosphere and seating at the Brooklyn location to the Manhattan one... never as long of a wait, in my experience. My only complaint is that it is a bit pricier than I would like, costing around $10-15 for a satisfying meal, though it is well worth the price because they are so specialized. I recommend the (soy) BBQ half chicken with vegetables juilenne and mashed potatoes with sweet corn. Another favorite: (soy) BBQ steak hero. And yes, everything on the menu really is vegetarian!
Pros: Excellent food * Unique food * Healthy cuisine
Cons: Bit pricey * Bit small inside * |

Review: The restaurant has a good atmosphere and fairly good fake meats. However, I think that the prices were high for the portions and especially for the quality of the sides which come with the entree.
