Plenty of vegan specialties including the couscous, plus other options which can be arranged by request. Open late as well (till 10 p.m., 7 days per week) - highly recommended!
Pros: arty, unique, great locationThis Casa del Pan is a welcoming place to rest. It is in a great location though next to a busy road - you can forget about the cars. The staff are very friendly. And the menu looked extensive. I only had a Beetroot, Carrot and Spinach juice which was cheap at 19 pesos, but also quite small. Delicious though. I also had a chocolate cookie - not vegan or gluten free, and a little dry without a hot drink to dip it in. My bad!
I would recommend it for organic teas, coffees, juices and relaxing.
La casa del pan papalotl seems to be a chain, and has also bakeries/ restaurants in other areas of Mexico. This one is not so nice as the one in San Cristobal de las Casas, but still it is quite ok. Has some light meals like salads, sandwiches, quesedillas, soup, vegetarian milanesa etc. Also has a quite good breakfast menu, and the coffee is fine. The area in itself is a very nice and more quiet part of Mexico city (though this place is situed on a quite trafficated road). As mentioned before, pizzas are great to take away, try the one with nopales (cactus leaves).
Pros: Good quality bakery, Organic, nice areathis bakery didn't have much as far as selection for vegan breads and such, but the staff was very helpful and went back and asked to make sure which breads were vegan. there were two that were. they were very good tasting breads. the shop was cute, they served coffee and baked goods and well priced. the individual sized breads were 6 pesos each and the loaves were 20-something pesos each.
also, it is in a very nice looking neighborhood. near the frida kahlo museum, if you happen to like her.
Pros: helpful, cheapLa Casa del Pan is quaint and pleasant. I highly recommend the personal vegetarian pizzas for 18 pesos. They are pre-made, so you only have to wait a few minutes for them to heat them up for you.
