Review: This is a very comfy little place that's great for lunch. Their menu is pretty limited, but there's always a good hearty vegetarian soup with bread. Wireless internet is well used in here, and they have what I thought was the best coffee in a country that, as a rule, has great coffee everywhere.
Pros: great coffee * *
Cons: limited menu * * |

• Hi Csbench, I liked your review. I was in Reykjavic a few years ago and don't remember the coffee standing out that much. Is there a special reason why they make such great coffee? Maybe it is the super-clean water. response by peasonearth

Review: Went with my omnivore friend, we both had a great meal - vegan Indian pancakes and a vegan burrito - unfortunately the full menu wasn't available (possibly because it's winter?) but the soy latte and soy hot chocolate were both fantastic! Great service, and everything in English as well as Icelandic.
Pros: Tasty food * Great service * Good atmosphere
Cons: Not cheap * * |

Review: Kaffi Hljomalind is a non-profit making cafe run as a co-operative. As well as the cafe there is wifi internet access, an anarchist library, second-hand books for sale and a number of artistic and political events. It's a really good place to go if you have a social conscience. Also, as the cost of the meals simply pays for the cost of the food and venue, it's one of the cheapest places in Reykjavik to get fed.
The food is excellent. There is a reasonable range on the menu - 8-10 items in total, with around half vegan. Some food is ready-made and just needs to be heated (e.g. lasagna, burritos, soup), the rest is prepared especially for you (e.g. sandwiches and toast). There are also cakes - anything from 2 to 5 different cakes, of which at least one should be vegan. Most items are made principally from locally-grown ingredients. All of the drinks are organic and Fairtrade where appropriate (tea, coffee etc).
As a person with food allergies, I was particularly impressed to discover that all of the meals on the regular menu have their full ingredients listed in both English and Icelandic on a poster next to the counter. It is also obvious from this list which items are vegan, meaning you don't have to go around asking like an idiot "Is this vegan? is that vegan?".
I went there with three friends - one vegetarian and two omnivores. We liked the food so much we went back the next day, which says a lot.
Pros: Non-profit venture * Cheap by Reykjavik standards! * Organic and Fairtrade
Cons: A bit slow * * |

Review: This is an interesting small coffee shop come cafe style place. A mixure of people who come in chat, play music, use their laptops and enjoy the urban atmoshphere. Soya lattes, vegan cakes and other vegetarian delights. They even had vegan lasagne on the menu which had sold out when we wanted it. Great staff and very friendly.
Pros: Friendly * Vegan friendly * non profit
Cons: * * |
