Review: Take a left past KFC off Streatham High Rd and you have found the most restoring place until you get to Boots or maybe the church.
The decor is minimalist French country and chilled/ jazzy music plays in backgound. They played a saxaphone rendition of "All I Wanna Do Is Have Some Fun" once which had a strange effect. Newspaper available. Steady stream of patrons throughout the day. Mostly adults in pairs, small groups and singles. Four seats to a table. It can get quite busy during meal time hours, but I have always been able to get a seat. Calming place to go especially outside of/ on the end of or just before main meal times or on a sort of quiet day, day or night.
There is a repertoire of items that are rotated and the blackboard menu changes daily with about three of these being available each day. Consistently available are items such as hommity pie, some sort of stew with rice, burger and salad, there are also some Thai curries from time to time. One of the managers/ owners is of Thai background. Desert mainstay is banoffee pie - cool, creamy and light although the last effect is lost after eating a whole serving. Other desserts available on the day might include fruit crumble. Extensive array of beverages available including organic fizzy drinks, wine and tea and coffee. Helpings are hearty, packed with fresh, varied vegetables or banana in case of banoffee pie which I had. Wholesome, filling and good!
Staff is spare yet adequate with often one person on the floor.
Great value as you will be totally full with a main meal, at about seven pounds. They do not request service charge either!
I must try the green Thai curry which has so far eluded me!
Pros: Healthy food * restoring space/ poss chill there * great value
Cons: Wish they would expand menu * wish Thai things would be avail more oft * |

Review: I don't know why the sign outside is boring grey because the food is vibrant, colourful, wholseome and tasty.
This small, friendly cafe is a blessed relief from grotty Streatham High Road. There isn't a big choice for vegans but the food is really good. There's always a hearty vegan special on - it's usually a curry or a casserole with loads of rice - and the belly-busting portions will leave little room for dessert. They also do smaller portions for the faint-hearted.
And you can wash it all down with a selection of juice or booze. My only gripe is regarding the self-indulgent jazz they keep playing.
Pros: Good food * Big portions *
Cons: Dreadful music * * |

Review: Great traditional style healthy veggie cafe with at least one vegan option each day. Their salad bowls are a meal in themselves. I always get some as a take-out if I have had a hard week at work and don't want to cook on a Friday night! They have 3 or 4 fresh mains each day, one option always vegan and serve good hearty veggie staples such as Homity Pie, casseroles and freshly made Humous. The staff are always polite and friendly and the vegan crumble with soya custard is yummy!
Pros: home-made * flavoursome * well priced
Cons: * * |
