Review: This place is fabulous. My husband and I came to Jim Thorpe for our 10 year anniversary. We haven't been abl to eat out much as a family since I was diagnosed with celiac disease last year, along with a number of other food allergies. Denise really catered to my needs. Our weekend was as great as it was becuase of Cafe' Oigins. My husband and I had the most fantastic food, the crab and corn chowder was his favorite and he even ordered the fried tofu (never thought I'd see that day) after he tried mine. The salads were so fresh, the salmon was perfect every time and the scampi was my favorite. We will be coming up on some day trips just to hike and eat - most definitely. The weekend we went it was very busy which was a good thing, but we had to wait, I don't think they were quite prepared staff-wise for so many people. Once we knew what we were wating for though we would have waited as long as it took. It was defintely worth the wait. Some people were not as patient - their loss. Denise knew she was busy and told us this was the busiest weekend she had had since opening. This is a wonderful thing I hope it continues to get more and more busy, we'll be sure to call ahead to see if the time comes when we will need reservations.
Pros: freshest food * gifted chef * great town
Cons: needs 1+ server * * |

Review: We recently visited Jim Thorpe and visited Cafe Origins for the 2nd time and loved the entire experience. We found the menu to be varied and the pricing appropriate for portion sizes. We had enough food served to take leftovers home with us. I had the full size Asian Salad,my husband had the penne paste with Sundried Tomato Pesto, and each serving was large enough for 2 adults. The children loved the grilled cheese and pasta with butter and cheese, thank goodness for a children's offering on the menu! We love the restaurant and our server was kind and courteous. She helped us plan our day in Jim Thorpe by offering suggestions on activities that would keep the children happy. She also recommended galleries and shops to visit, which were unique shops, with one of a kind items. We will be back and plan to bring along some of our friends!
Pros: excellent food * good value * friendly staff

Review: My husband and I went to Cafe Origins after reading the positive reviews on this site and after visiting, I have to wonder if they've ever been to a good vegetarian restaurant before.
The food is ok, just ok. My platter had a standard black bean veggie burger (tasted like a Morningstar burger), a cheese and bean quesadilla, and a lettuce mix with balsamic vinegar (not even a vinaigrette!). It was basically something I would have thrown together in about five minutes at home, except it cost $22!!! I was actually really disappointed with the menu, as it seemed devoid of seitan or tofu items, which are some of my favorite things to eat at a veggie cafe, since they can be difficult to prepare properly at home. Since we had planned to go to Origins and we were hungry when we arrived, we just decided to try it rather than walk around trying to find something better. I think of all the veggie restaurants I've been to, this is my least favorite, and by far the most expensive.
About the bottled water issue: Yes, it is "clearly" (somewhat) printed on the menu that they only serve bottled water and will charge you for it. ($1 for a tiny amount--less than 8 oz.)I feel this is a huge anti-environmental misstep for several reasons. The energy used to make bottles and transport water is unnecessary and beyond wasteful. I find it to be an insult to other parts of the world that don't have access to perfectly healthy tap water, that we can't drink it. Just as I eschew meat, I avoid bottled water, and I shouldn't have to have this waste forced upon me.
Pros: vegetarian * atmosphere is decent *
Cons: mediocre food * forced bottled water * OVERPRICED |

• I again regret u had a bad experience. As I stated you cannot please everyone and everyone is entitled to their opinion. as 4 your difficulty reading review, sorry but I was asked to condense to fit to specific # of words. I believe u figured it out. If u felt the meal was mediocre u should have told your server and we would have tried our best to accomidate your likes and dislikes. As 4 the restuarants in town ALL will serve VEGETARIAN AND VEGAN entrees, so if visiting again there are lots of options for you, keep that in mind. As 4 the H20, there is are so many impurities that I change the 3 filters at least every 2 wks. Don't drink the tap H20, here or anywhere else. u seem to care about what u put into your body, why would you want to drink, lead, arsnic, copper, aluminum and other trace minerals that are known to cause disease? • Origins,
First, please READ the description of the restaurant before you make your assumptions. Maggie's is clearly stated as "All Vegan," meaning the referenced "chicken" as well as the "spareribs" are VEGAN. I have been a vegetarian since I was 10! Also please check your writing for coherency, it was beyond difficult to read through. Yes, I had seen your menu previously, the surprise came from my husband, also a vegetarian, who had not viewed the menu online and was surprised. I tried to have my review incorporate both of our experiences. Yes, it actually would have been difficult for two vegetarians to find a different restaurant in a small town. Besides, we figured we'd try the food before we came to conclusions. It was impossible to know beforehand that the food would be just ok and severely overpriced. Once we had eaten,.... response by wilderness
• Sorry u did not have a good experience at the restuarant.1 thing I know 4 sure, it's impossible to please everyone in customer based services. I'm having a difficult time understanding how u were surprised with the menu.I do track my web site hits and I do know that u visited the web site pre-visit, viewing both menu + specials, therefore you had known in advance exactly what was offered. As 4the tofu items, at least 5 choices on the regular menu and 1 on the specials weekly. Is the menu devoid of tofu items? There are 9 restuarants in a 2 block radius, Jim Thorpeis a small town.Find it difficult to believe it wouldbe a major event to locate another restuarant. For your concerns about the H2O. Reviewed bill, u were not charged for H2O u ordered. We serve purified H2O. We have a filtration system on incoming water 2 purify + remove the.... response by origins

Review: All good, fresh and healthy food in a wonderful space with great ambience/decor. The Cafe serves some seafood to satisfy the carnivore. A frequent special, eggplant parmesan, is the best you'll find anywhere.
Pros: Quiet, smoke-free. * Healthy, quality food. * Outside seating available
Cons: * * |

Review: I have been dining at Cafe Origins since the beginning. I loved it then & I still love it. The ambiance is warm & friendly & I have always found the service excellent. I am not a vegetarian, but there are so many choices on the menu, I never have a problem finding something new & delicious to try. I have never had Eggplant Parmigiana better than the one Denise (owner & chef) prepares using her mothers original recipe. Cafe Origins is the real deal. Do yourself a favor & try it. I'm glad I did.

Review: I spent October 14th and 15th in Jim Thorpe and ate at Cafe Origins twice. The resturant was packed and the food and service were great. I ate the mediterranean rolls, the miso soup and the veggie burger on the first visit and the carrot and ginger soup and the homemade hummus wrap on the second visit. Everything was super good. A great resturant with great staff and a great atmosphere.
Pros: excellent food * great atmosphere * great staff
Cons: none * * |
