Review: Xin An is the only restaurant selling pure vege at Langkawi, so the price is expensive and the food is below my expectation (very small portion and not tasty). And also not much choices at the menu. But the boss is very talkative, friendly and nice.
Pros: friendly boss * *
Cons: small portion * expensive * Not much choices |

Review: Palau Langkawi may be a beautiful island, but it is not a great place to go eating if you're vegan. There are very few options. We are staying in Cenang on the beach, and essentially eating whatever we can cobble together at the various restaurants that are seafood dominated. That means some hummos and falafel at the various arabic places, and the odd pasta primavera. We needed something more, and went to the only place available, Xin An Vegetarian, which is open for lunch and dinner, but closed from 3:30-6:30. It is in the main town, Kuah, where very few travellers stay, and a 24RM taxi-ride from Cenang. The food here was above average, if not great. We skipped the buffet, which looked cold, and instead ordered Sweet and Sour (Mock) Chicken, Mixed Vegetables, and Hot and Sour Soup (Tom Yum) Soup. All three were good, with the chicken the best of the lot. The soup looked oily, but was actually quite good, if not outstanding. The servers were really friendly.
This place was VERY hard to find. Most locals we asked had no idea where it was, and given the sparsity of street signs in Langkawi, I can't provide much more detail. I will say this. It is outside of the "main" part of Kuah, and several kilometers from the Jetty. It is about 1km west from the Bayview Hotel, which is a huge landmark. The "street", or "center" was Kalang Mas, but we got several pieces of contradictory advice about where that was, and only got there after consulting repeatedly with locals. Our taxi driver had no idea. If you go left at the Bayview, away from the Jetty, and continue down the only main street for about a km, you will see Xin An on your left-hand side. Wish I could be more precise, but I looked for recognizable landmarks, and there really were none. Good luck!
The quality of the food probably warrants about three cows, or three and a half. Given that it is the only vegetarian place in Langkawi, I'm throwing it an extra cow!
Pros: friendly staff * an oasis *
Cons: hard to find * not cheap * |
