Review: After reading the reviews, we decided to go to Stupps instead of Dalia's. I'm delighted we did. The restaurant was very quaint & cozy, and we were the first guests of the evening. The owner, Esther, was able to chat with us and give us some background on the place before other patrons started to arrive. She's an ethical vegetarian, and the moshav is eco-conscious. No pesticides are used to grow the food. We had a potato leek and a tomato soup to start. Both were excellent. The all-in-one meal wasn't bad and was a nice change from what we were used to eating in Israel. The sorbet we had for dessert was nice, but I was slightly disappointed that they didn't have any vegan baked items for dessert. If I came through the Galilee again, I'd come back though.
Pros: cozy * excellent soup * nice owner
Cons: no interesting desserts * * |

Review: The food was extremely expensive and certainly not good value for money. Although the prices on the internet site said 85 shekel, we were informed when we arrived that in fact it was 100 shekel per person. We stayed anyway but since it is a vegetarian meal there is no way that price could be justified.
However, in a restaurant one is prepared to pay for the ambiance etc, but this was sadly lacking. Everything about the place is old-fashioned. The way the food is served from literally putting several courses on the table at once so that half of them are cold by the time you come to them -- to the dishes they are presented in. The greatest disappointment though at the end of the day was the taste. Overcooked cauliflower, and underspiced dips are not culinary treats. There is a serious shortage of restaurants in the area and anyone who opens up a place that is even half-way decent there would invariably do very well since there is no competition.
One last comment, Dalia herself, could do with learning some basic public relations skills. When she asks you if everything is fine -- telling her your problems is not received graciously or with a constructive attitude. The idea of replacing overcooked food with something done freshly was not offered or considered a possibility when suggested. The customer should know her place!
Pros: * *
Cons: bad food * overcooked cuisine * discourteous service |

Review: Stupps is located in the famed vegetarian community of Moshav Amirim. While there are probably at least 5 or 6 small family restaurants in the moshav, Stupp's is the only 1 that is certified kosher. Situated in a log cabin with a garden outside, it's ideal for a family night out or a quiet evening with a date. The prices are pretty fair and the portions are good. The stuffed mushrooms are a mouth watering appetizer and our favorite is the all in one meal (where you get a tasty tofu stirfry and a nice vege burger all in one). The "tofu in a basket" and ravioli are also exceptional as is just about everything. For dessert I recommend the hot apple pie. Sometimes in Israel it seems the every Vegetarian/dairy restaurant has the same old menu of pastas and salads that taste the same everywhere. Stupps breaks this trend and offers unique creative and delicious options which will leave and vegetarian or meateater extremely satisfied. Call to reserve in advance as they're almost always filled.
Pros: Delicious! * Kosher and healthy * Lovely atmosphere
Cons: Hard to get to * * |
