Review: I'd read the Happy Cow reviews for this restaurant before visiting Salzburg and was a little reluctant to try it at first. It happened to be between our hostel and the main street so we had a look in as we passed and it looked very promising.
One wall is full of shelves stocked with vegetarian wholefood products and the decor is colourful, exotic and inviting.
The menu looked a little confusing at first but it makes perfect sense if you take a minute or two to familiarise yourself with the layout.
My boyfriend and I sat at a cosy table for two by the window and each ordered soup and a main course. The soup was tasty but nothing to sing and dance about, however the main course was really delicious. It consisted of small portions of three different curries and a serving of rice. the curries were mild but very tasty (perfect for me) and the size of the meal was perfect, leaving just enough room for linzertorte. I was determined to try something traditionally Austrian, however small, while I was there (because of course, it can be difficult trying to experience traditional cuisine when limited to only a couple of vegan-friendly restaurants) so I was very happy to be able to sample Linzertorte. It was delicious anyway. I plan to devote a good deal of time to attempts to recreate it in my own kitchen.
I didn't buy a drink (they were happy to give us tap water) and the grand total of my soup, curry, rice, and cake was 10 Euro.
Pros: Lovely decor * Cheap * Very tasty
Cons: * * |

Review: My husband Matt and I were in Salzburg in August 09 and we went to Bio Bisto Spicy Spices twice. The first time I ordered the paratha which came with 3 different curries. Matt had chapati with the same three curry dishes. We also had the vegan cake for dessert which was really nice. The second visit, we had a samosa to start and then the special which was 3 curries with rice. The food was tasty and the staff were really friendly and helpful. They had some good organic beers too.
Pros: friendly staff * quiet location * outdoor seating
Cons: * * |

Review: My husband and I visited Salzburg in July. We ate at Spicy Spice twice during our two day stay. After a few days of bread and cheese in Germany, we were so thrilled to find some veggie food! They had a good selection of Indian inspired dishes (not traditional Indian food but very good!) including tofu and seitan dishes. The menu is vegan friendly and there are some grocery items you can buy at the restaurant as well. I highly recommend it!
Pros: outdoor seating * yummy food * good portions
Cons: They were out of a few menu items * * |

Review: Its a small Indian restaurant, but just grab a seat outside and order the vegan special of the day. That's what everyone does. There's also a small grocery wall inside where you can pick up some random vegan items.
Pros: vegan daily special * outdoor seating *
Cons: * * |

Review: Had a good day menu today there. The place is nice, friendly people, the menu was very good for 7.5 EUR, salad
and main plate. The best was the home made desert, Linzer
Torte, wich was one of the best cakes I ever had. Realy
heavy and not to sweet. I ate two of them.

Cons: * * |

Review: This place is cheap compared to surrounding restaurants (2 people fed for under 20 euro). The portions are large. The food is fresh. The daily special really changes daily. I know b/c my fiance & I went back everyday we were in Salzburg. Also, being dairy sensitive, I didn't worry about the food there. One caveat, you do need to enjoy Indian cuisine. No problem if you don't speak German. We loved it! 5 cows!
Pros: fresh, filling good food * large plate of food * variety of options
Cons: kinda small dining space * * |

Review: I read the reviews for this place before I left the states. They sounded so disgusting that I avoided it for several days. I then got so hungry and tired of trying to explain to various servers in restaurants what I could and couldn't eat that I finally went there. It is small (one small room with maybe five tables and another table by the kitchen) and has a vibe like what you might find in Ann Arbor or Berkley. The man who waited on us spoke perfect English and gave us menus in English. The selection is not huge, but EVERYTHING is vegan! Now, maybe this taints my review, but I was so excited to actually be able to order something from the menu without fear. I got a salad and a samosa as well as a glass of fresh juice. I found everything to be quite satisfactory. The service was friendly and attentive. The prices were not bad at all--for this meal I paid less than 10E. I fully intend to go there again. And again and again. There aren't many places in Salzburg where you can get vegan food or fresh juice that I have found. I will be cautious because of the previous reviews and I will amend this review if I have any negative experiences.
Pros: friendly staff * all vegan * menus and signs in english
Cons: * * |

• I have been going to Bio Bistro everyday of my trip and have had nothing but personable service and really good food. I do need to amend one statement from above: the entire menu is not vegan, but most of it is, and they will tell you what is vegan and what is not. The menu seems a bit sparse, but as I have been going daily I can say that it changes daily. For instance, "soup" on the menu means a different soup everyday, and this carries through for much of their fare. I highly recommend this delightful place for vegan and vegetarian dining in Salzburg!!. response by yeshlee

Review: We were so embarrassed to take our hostess in Salzburg here. The menu was bizarre, random menu items over a number of pages, most seemed the same. We finally just picked something each. Then he tells us he doesn't have two of the things we chose. So I picked something else. My "dal" came and was half chick-peas, which don't belong in dal. But the real surprise was the little worm crawling through my salad. I'm afraid of bugs, so let out a yelp. (Also, not real vegetarian!) It was awful. They took it back, but I couldn't eat at all. Our hostess's daughter refused to eat her food. The other two adults said it was OK, but strange tasting. The service was not nice even before the incident with the worm.
Also, I'm suspicious of the GUEST who keeps giving this place 5 cows. Hmmmmm. Stay away.

Cons: Bug in food * * |

Review: We were 2 times in the Spicy Spices, as the first eating was ok (though we found quite expensive for the small portion). The second time we ordered a total different meal, but it was exactly the same and unfortunately I have found a black hair in the meal ... so whatever friendly they are it was quite disgusting and we will not go back there.

Review: We had two of our meals here and we were quite satisifed with what they had to offer. We had some rice, chapati, dal (lentil curry), chana and some mixed vegetable curry. All of these dishes were quite good and sufficient. The dishes were all simple with no unnecessary masalas added and that was what we wanted. The guy, Nirmal, was friendly and flexible. He even cooked some chana with no added garlic at our request. Overall a pleasant experience.
This restaurant was located next to our Hotel, but this is some 10-15mins walk from old city. This restaurant is close to St.Sebastian cemetery, hence plan accordingly.
Pros: Great Food * Friendly Staff * Price
Cons: Location (Not Bad though) * * |

Review: After reading good reviews I was looking forward to eating at Spicy Spices, particularly as it's difficult to find vegan food in Salzburg. The 'English' menu was only in English in parts and the waiter spoke little English so we ordered and hoped for the best. We ended up with tofu in a curry sauce with two naan bread. The nann bread were quite odd, small and sweet, more like pancakes. The actual curry seemed as though it was just some sauce poured over some tofu - as if you choose your filling and then they pour the same sauce over whatever you have. The tofu wasn't very nice either. We couldn't finish the food and we usually aren't very picky! We decided not to even attempt dessert. We weren't given a bill, just told how much it was which was a little confusing as I'd also purchased some items from the shop so we couldn't work out exactly how much the meal was. It basically seems like a decent shop that has decided to serve food. They should have stuck to the shop.
Pros: Good shop * Nicely decorated *
Cons: Not very good food * Menu not in english * |
