Review: It's great that they're trying to promote veganism by offering a "vegan breakfast" on weekends, but the selection consists of a bunch of items made out of tofu (quiche, eggs benedict, omelette, etc). I've been vegan for years now, and thoroughly enjoy tofu, but at this place they somehow manage to make their items very bland and unpalatable. I don't want to eat just a hunk of tofu - even if it's served on toast with a tomato and sprig of sage on it.
Additionally, I don't think the owner understands that vegan food doesn't always have to consist of meat substitutes. While she may be making veganism more mainstream just by increased visibility and awareness, I'm afraid she may be turning people away from veganism if they think her food is representative of What Vegans Eat. Other vegan breakfast items she could offer include coffee cake, apple crisp, muffins, fruit smoothies, oatmeal, hash browns, breakfast potatoes, cinnamon buns, crepes! There's a whole World of vegan breakfast foods out there that do not consist of tofu!
Other than my criticism of the weekend breakfast, I would have to say that her little "natural foods" store is fairly good. I'm happy to have a source of random health foods and vegan ingredients at a small, local, non-chain store like this. Her prices seem to have come down since she moved to the new location. Perhaps more expensive and definitely not as well-stocked as the supermarket, but I'm willing to pay a little extra for something I happen to need in order to support her business.
Pros: Trying to support veganism * Is small and woman-owned *
Cons: Poor Food Quality * Bad Menu Selection * Staff is not very "business-like" |

Review: The owner is so accommodating--if she doesn't have it, just ask--if she can get it for you, she will! Wonderful organic/vegan variety, many homemade goodies (YUM!!). Vegan breakfasts on weekends and soups at lunchtime. It's the best vegan place in central PA!
Pros: variety * excellent food * friendly
Cons: only open 3 days a week * * |

Review: Nude Food has provided a culinary delight for Harrisburg area vegans/vegetarians by serving vegan breakfasts on Saturday. Pam, the owner/chef, is an excellent cook and her vegan pancakes, tofu scramble, eggs (not) benedict, et al have been getting rave reviews from her customers who seem to enjoy the camaraderie and coziness of the charming and historic Broad Street Market where she holds forth at her organic food and sundries
stand Thurs.-Sat. and at her grill on Saturday mornings. Plenty of seating and free parking.
Pros: Tasty fare * Delightful, charming owner/chef * Fun atmosphere
Cons: Only available on Saturdays * * |
