Review: I'd just travelled to Portland from Chicago on the train, which took 2 and a half days, so really needed some decent food. The receptionist at the incredible Mark Spencer Hotel recommended this place, and I'm so glad I tried it out! I tried the Gaia Green bowl, which was very tasty, and also one of the green smoothies, and felt much better afterwards. I didn't try any of the soft serve icecream, but it looked good. I had the Monks Bowl the next night, which I didn't like as much, but it was still good.
The cafe has a nice atmosphere, and was definitely somewhere I felt comfortable eating on my own.
It got pretty busy around 6.30/7pm (I waited 40 minutes the second night for my food and ended up having to get it to go) so I'd suggest going either earlier or later. Otherwise this is a great place in a nice location, and definitely somewhere I'll be visiting again when I'm next in Portland

Pros: Good nutritious food * cooked to order * nice relaxed atmosphere
Cons: service a bit slow * *

Review: While staying in Portland for a week, this place was conveniently close, and I was glad it was. I tried something different everyday for 6 days. Everything was the best - some raw - some cooked.

They told me that they were moving to another location, so check before going.

Review: I visited Portland for a work conference, and was excited to visit the Blossoming Lotus based on reviews here. I was NOT disappointed. My conference was three blocks away, so Portland folks saw me jogging back and forth for my morning juice, noontime meal and afternoon smoothie or softserve! Everything I ate was wonderful -- let's see..... southwestern bowl with cashew cream cheese, apple / ginger / green juice, chocolate soft serve, the live pizza / pasta, split pea soup.... Oh my, I'm missing it already! The staff were wonderful - they even remembered my name after I'd been in there a couple of times. I was able to tell them what I wanted and when I'd be there, and they had lunch ready for me. I loved the atmosphere - very quiet and welcoming. It made me happy to watch all the people coming and going from yoga classes. I would SO recommend this place.....

Review: I was here in September 09 and am pleased to share my review of Blossoming Lotus Cafe on HappyCow.net. It was my first trip to Portland. I had mapped out a string of restaurants I'd want to visit while here, and this was one of them.

We've eaten at the original Blossoming Lotus restaurant as well as their juice bar cafe formerly on the island of Kauai, Hawaii (both now closed due to the downturn in tourism to the island), so we knew what kind of wholesome delicious cuisine to expect... We were not disappointed.

The cafe set up is simple, open, and inviting. It's a small space attached to the Yoga Pearl studio divided by a curvy wall of bamboo. You order at the counter, and the food is brought to your table. After you eat, you take your plates to the dirty dishes rack. It's all very easy and no frills.

The food is fresh, healthy, and delicious. We ordered the apple and greens juice (fresh), the green gaia bowl which is kale, avocado, quinoa, with dressing (healthy, tasty),
the smoked maple tempeh sandwich (sweet, savory, and soft tempeh), and the live food sampler which is a large plate filled with assorted live food dishes that the cafe offers including live marinated vegetables pizza, nutty eden salad, live zucchini pasta, flax seed crackers, cashew hummus (excellent and filling).

Totally loved this place. I added it to my favorites on HappyCow!

Pros: positive vibration * fresh food * inviting space

Review: When I planned to visit PDX, vegan soft serve was on my top priority list. I had just left VegFest so I was really full, but I overstuffed myself & boy, was it worth it! I had the Cuban chocolate, which was amazing!! (Being Cuban, I'm not sure why they called it that... We'll chock it up to creative expression) So many things on the menu looked inviting, so I'll def go back (w/belly room) on my next visit. The little blossoming cups they used for the soft serve were cute AND recyclable too!

Pros: Delicious Vegan soft serve * Clean * Vegan food
Cons: Parking * Limited seating * Shares space w/a yoga studio

Review: My husband and I just visited Portland for the first time and had printed a list of Veg restaurants from this site. After we went to the Blossoming Lotus, we were so impressed we went back the next night. The food was really tasty and the staff were very friendly. We had trouble deciding what to order and they answered our many questions. The seating is limited and cramped and we didn't like the "quiet please" signs posted throughout but these would be the only complaints about this place. It would be great if they moved out of the yoga studio and opened and expanded this restaurant. Diners want to be noisy and laugh! Especially when the food is this GOOD!

Pros: Good food * healthy * friendly
Cons: small * too quiet *

Review: Had every intention of going, but they had just closed by the time I got there. Went to Isabel, a couple blocks north, and it was great. Many veg selections, great atmosphere, incredibly wonderful server. Highlight was a fresh ear of corn, grilled, rubbed with butter and lime juice, and sprinkled with chili powder and cilantro. Awesome! Highly recommend Isabel in the Pearl district.

Review: I'm writing this review a bit late. We went here for breakfast while staying downtown back in March 09. My husband had oatmeal, my daughter had the tofu scramble and I had the hummus. The hummus was the best. I can make a better tofu scramble and my husband said the oatmeal wasn't worth the price. We orded two chai teas and had to wait over 30 minutes for one of them because the person who makes it was gone. But that would have been ok had the place and staff not been so uncomfortable. Upon walking in you see multiple signs instructing you to be quiet (because it's a yoga studio). Didn't get a warm reception from the staff. The waitress/cashier was put off that I had to exchange an unopened parfait because it had gala apples in it which I'm allergic to. The strange thing was the place was not busy. So they can't use that excuse. It felt like because we didn't have tattoos and piercings we weren't cool enough. I've meant some vegan snobs and it felt like this place was ripe with them.

Some day I might try their vegan soft serve I read about in these reviews. If the service is better I'll update my review.

Pros: All vegan * *
Cons: Snotty attitude * uncomfortable seating * pricey

Review: First Veg place I visited in Portland--one & only veg place recommended to me by our hotel receptionist.
This place-your-order & take-a-number cafe shares its entrance with a yoga studio--so tables are limited and cramped in the corner. On Thursday afternoon, there were no tables available--but after reading the menu and the looks of what others were eating I had to hope & wait (or get my food to go). To drink--I started with fresh juice of carrot/ beet/ kale--perfect. My omnivore friend had the Thai Peanut Bowl (noodles, etc) and I had the Southwest Bowl (brown rice, chili, avocado, kale) adding Tempeh. I was really impressed--good mix of flavors, very fresh--huge amount of food. I felt horrible not finishing my food (I tried-- I was overstuffed)--and being in a hotel--had to throw the remaining food away : ( This food definitely satisfied us for hours and hours.
As far as the service-- I have no complaints--staff is kept busy with multi-tasks--cash register, delivering food to tables, answering phone and food prep. All my questions were answered satisfactorily and my order came out quicker than I expected considering the busy time of day.
We would love to come back the next time we come to PDX!

Review: I have now eaten at a number of raw cafes and restaurants- including most in the LA area, the supposedly really swanky ones, and the quality of raw food at Blossoming Lotus is among the best. Their pizza is super, super good, their pasta is quite good- their zucchini noodles are cut like no zucchini noodles I've seen elsewhere; Their desserts are good- I believe I had their fudge and a cookie, I liked both very much. Their hummus is good, and you can buy it at the local vegan grocer. Among all the raw food places I've eaten, this is truly among the best-tasting, and the food quantity and quality to price ratio is very good as well- pretty cheap here. All organic... can't ask for much more :) Highly suggested for raw fooders.

Pros: Delicious * Good quantity * Cheap
Cons: Just want more :) * *

Review: Always busy on weekend nights and many weeknights, expect to wait a looooooong time. Hit or miss with wait staff. Both cooked and raw food is very good. If you don't like spicy food beware...the chef sometimes overcompensates for flavor with way too much cayenne pepper. This loses the flavor of the dish and just tastes like licking pepper. I like spicy and spiced food but this really annoyed me. Tell them to go easy on it if it is shown in your dish. Delicious raw and cooked desserts. (especially raw fudge) Really good smoothies.

Pros: Good Food * Raw/Vegan * Desserts
Cons: Pricey * sometime incoherent staff * Long wait lines

Review: After finding little vegetarian offerings on the menus of restaurants recommended to us in this area of Portland, we were happy to stumble upon this place. The food was very good. We had the living platter and the barbecue tempeh. Tempeh had great flavor. The living platter is great because it allows you to sample a variety of foods. Service was fine - water glasses were replenished. Food came out rather slow but is to be expected given the small kitchen and the emphasis on fresh. The ambience is the downside as the space is shared with a yoga studio. In the middle of our dinner, a class let out and there was a lot of bustle as people were leaving the studio. All in all I would definitely return upon another visit to Portland.

Cons: small * noisy * poor ambience

Review: This place was a good find. I enjoyed a delicious seitan and avocado sandwich, and my colleagues liked their food as well. The menu offers a range of interesting choices, including some baked goods. I really wanted to try the soft serve, but was just too full (and it was too cold). My biggest gripe was with the service. As others have indicated, it was painfully slow, which was amazing, because there were not that many people there. One of my friends had to go and re-order, as the service staff had forgotten something. The cashier moved with the speed of a glacier.

Review: This is a good spot to hit in route to the Chinese Garden. We just grabbed the famous soft serve. I don't think its much of a dinner spot since its in a Yogo Studio. The line at the register interrupts with your table service so don't sit near that. Very casual place. Soft Serve lived up to its reputation.

Review: This food made me feel great walking out. My fave place in Ptd. I highly suggest this place.

It deserves its own venue rather than sharing w a yoga studio. The folks there have no sense of humor (likely due to the fact there remnants no longer stink... sad).

Service here was excellent, even though it is counter service.

Review: Super good, super yum, super everything~
Blossoming Lotus if my favorite. Vegan, conscious, friendly, clean, and GOOD TASTE, everything important!
I would recommend this to anyone.
The ONLY downside is that uppity yoga peal they have to share space with. However it's not hard to overlook when you have raw living fudge in your mouth, or raw strawberry shortcake in your hands, about to be devoured!
My favorite is the hummus wrap... and the raw fudge... and strawberry shortcake... and... everthing:)

Review: Because this is one of the few 100% vegan places in town, I have been several times, however each time it gets worse. Kale is hardly chopped, if at all. I once pointed out bug eggs on my kale and my server told me she was "over that" and now just eats them. The rice can be undercooked or overcooked depending on the day. The service can be great some nights and outright rude other nights. There is no clear manager on staff and you can wait long periods of time before you are helped with ordering or food service. With that said, its better to eat in than take out. They seem to be more careful with your order and food presentation. When it gets hot out, make sure the improperly dressed service staff does not drip sweat on your food from areas that should be covered. When ordering live nachos once (a great dish!) I received crumbs of nachos on a plate. The salads have been good but watch out for the rotten avocado that gets slipped in. The soft serve is consistently good and the flavors are creative. Good Luck.

Pros: soft serve * raw food * organic
Cons: awful service * poor food prep * small space

Review: I didn't actually dine here but went here several times for the vegan soft serve. Menu wise, this place is all vegan which is great but it seems to serve mainly raw food which is not the type of food I prefer.
The soft serve is great when they have it. I went there 4 times. Twice I got the soft serve without a hitch, another time, we had to wait awhile because they were changing flavors and another time they were out.
I had the chocolate almond which was great, the chocolate orange which was very good and the vanilla which was ok.

Review: Found out about this restaurant via Happy Cow and decided to check it out during recent adventure to Portland. Went on a Saturday night at about 8:45 and there was quite a bit of a wait. But, let me say for the flavors and taste alone, it was worth it. Started with an order of the rice paper hand rolls that were absolutely delicious. the spicy peanut sauce couldn't have been better! i ordered the live wrap. i was a little bit disappointed with the size,(about that of the appetizer), it was definately not worth $8 in my opinion even if the flavor was fantastic. my boyfriend ordered the thia bowl which was much more for the price, and again...taste was definately on point. also ordered a side of cornbread. HIGHLY recommend. perfect amount of spice, perfectly light and fluffy. my boyfriend wants to know how they accomplished that being vegan!
i highly recommend this place, and the price is reasonable. oh, and a great atmosphere!!

Pros: super flavorful * chill atmosphere * great cornbread!
Cons: portions can be disappointing * some wait, limited seating *

Review: Blossoming Lotus is the place to go if you love fresh, organic, and highly flavorful food. I always get a raw dish because they are just so wonderful and I can't bring myself to try anything else. I visit once a week, and I always find a friendly staff waiting. If you come during the lunch or dinner rush, (12 or 6pm) you will have to wait for a table. If you come just a bit before, you will find prompt service and a friendly atmosphere. My favorite dish is the Taco Salad, only offered at dinner. It comes out a bit different each time I order, which I really love, so you know they are using the freshest ingredients possible. I also like the Garden of Eden salad for lunch and maybe a cup of soup with flax crackers. I find the portions to be perfect for my stomach. I think the prices are super reasonable. And even though it is next to the yoga studio, I find I don't even notice once I get my meal. Highly recommended to non-vegans too, and tell them to be adventurous in their ordering and they will be pleasantly surprised!

Review: This was our first time eating at Blossoming Lotus. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was good. We ate there on a Sunday evening so it wasn't too busy to get a table right away. But I imagine on other evenings or lunhtime there'd be a wait. The prices were a bit high. But comparitively you get what you pay for in quality. There aren't a whole lot of all vegan/mostly organic choices in Portland. The sandwiches are delicious and the desserts exeptional. The Live Nachos were really tasty too. I would prefer though that the yoga studio was separate from the restaurant. Other than that it was a delicious dining experience. Look forward to trying more dishes on the menu.

Cons: Inside the yoga studio * Shares restrooms with yoga studio * A bit pricey for families

Review: We were in the area and this cafe had been recommended by locals, when we mentioned we were vegetarians, so we went to dinner around 6. I had the stir fry on quinoa(a lovely grain which I've never been able to find in a restauraunt before)which was fresh tasting but flavoured a bit too simply for my taste. As mentioned in other reviews here, tofu and tempeh aren't included in many dishes, but you can order them as a side order. The tofu was lightly stir fried with tiny smidge of spice and needed more flavour, I asked for sauce and waiter kindly brought me some delicious complimentary peanut sauce for me to dip my tofu in. It would be a good idea if they always included sauce with tofu. My partner tried the vegan pizza which was two small pieces of "nutty" cracker-like crust with some pesto topped with shredded vegetables. It really was impossible to try to eat like a regular pizza as all the veggies fell off and the cracker broke into pieces. He was very disappointed with the logistics of trying to eat this, but found the flavour okay. The chai was yummy, the carrot cake was dry and not as good as other vegan cakes we have had at other restauraunts. Service was pretty good, though we had to ask a busboy to get us some water. Personally I thought the prices were a touch high for the portion size, but I realize that organic produce is more costly. Looking at the chalkboard and menu, it is great that this restauraunt offers healthy grains such as quinoa, and vegetables like kale.

Pros: fresh and organic * not your usual grains and vegetables *
Cons: people walking in and out of yoga studio * small space *

Review: I was the one that gave the one cow review. Some of you will now notice that i have removed that review. As suggested by some folks who had responded to me, i did give it another shot. The service was MUCH better. We had a new server who was very kind. It was unfortunate that they were out of several things but they were able to make subsitutions to make our food amazing. I am not one for raw food but there were plenty of yummy warm choices.. i have also revisted once more for the soft serve and it was wonderful. I apologize for giving it one cow the first time. I did have unfriendly and stuffy service the first time but hey, everyone has a hard day. I will go there again. :) I still don't find it a very kid friendly place however! Older kids are probably ok.

Review: I was lucky enough to come across Blossoming Lotus while I was visiting Portland (from the UK) for a couple of days. Such a treat to find a raw restaurant and one with such fantastic food. I managed to get there for two lunches and one breakfast, and everything I ate (without exception) was gorgeous - the live nachos, the veggie pasta, pecan pie and the breakfast parfait. It kept me going through the rest of my holiday where I was mostly eating lettuce and tomatoes in 'normal' cooked restaurants! I thought the prices were reasonable too, being a raw foodist I know how much work goes into the more gourment raw meals. I look forward to my next trip to Portland!

Review: I had the Inca Bowl (contains quinoa, beans and kale) and a spicy peanut sauce $7. Very hearty and healthy. Lots of items on the menu. Only a few tables. The only thing I didn't like is that I wish more items came with tofu or some other protein source. There were many items that had very little protein. Food was tasty and I will return.

Review: really good food. It's more like a cafe than a restaurant. The location is a little weird, being that it's inside a yoga studio.Interesting menu, although everything on it was good.

Pros: excellent food * healthy cuisine * friendly staff

Review: Take one part yoga studio, mix in a healthy dose of calm, and sprinkle on some incredible vegan food and get whoa. The dinner menu reminds me of Angelica's kitchen in NYC with it's variety of monk's bowls (revolving grains, legumes, proteins, and greens with killer sauces). Breakfast here is good too, even if the menu is limited. The tofu scramble is excellent and cheap ($4) and the breakfast burrito (not on the menu when I went, but it was the only thing they were serving that morning?) is also killer. Gets crowded in the evenings, but the fountain in the waiting area makes for a relaxing wait.

Pros: healthy, delicious food * cheap breakfast * friendly, relaxed staff
Cons: slow (could be a pro too) * *

Review: My whole family loves this place. I have 2 kids, ages 7 and 11, and we always feel welcome. The employees are very nice and the food is simply delicious. The atmosphere is pretty casual (they share space with a yoga studio) and the service sometimes seems a little hectic during busy times, but we are willing to put up with a few quirks and sometimes slow service if it means I can enjoy some of the best vegan food in Portland. My favorite dishes are: tempeh fajitas (I suggest ordering this with a side of avocado), the spicy avocado and tofu sandwich, and the raw pesto pasta (the "noodles" are made from long spiral-shredded zucchini and julienned carrots). The juices are also great! I am daydreaming about apple-lemon-ginger right now... yum!

Pros: all-vegan menu * delicious flavorful food * many raw food options
Cons: small kitchen * sometimes crowded * service can be slow

Review: I had recently taken a trip up to Portland to visit a friend. Being from Berkeley I am used to some of the best vegan cooking in the solar system but my buddy couldn't stop talking about how we needed to go to the Blossoming Lotus. Now I am not a morning guy at all! but an "awesome meal" was awaiting exclaimed my friend. Still rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, I was warmed by the calming energy radiating from Blossoming Lotus's exterior. I decided to get the tofu scramble, which i ordered from what had to be the cutest little lady this side of Mississippi, and I must say that there aren't words in the english language to describe the parade of flavor that entered my mouth. Sun dried tomatoes, carrots and greens all dancing around on my tongue. I highly recommend, rather, i urge that you warm your souls hunger with anything from the Blossoming Lotus menu...especially if you have a thin wallet like myself ( :
Thank you everyone at Blossoming Lotus for making my trip oh so much better!

Review: The food was really good and the prices were not bad as well. The only thing that kind of bothered me was it was in a yoga place. The only thing I kept thinking of was the sweat/aroma of the people and the mixture of the food. Not pleasant to think about.

Review: The spicy avo sandwich is my fav, $6 for avacodao and tofu bliss. The chicken salad wrap is also very good. My last experience here was bad though, their usually wonderfully soft and moist bread was totally stale and I should have returned it. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is as pleasant as a small cafe/kiosk can get. Wish they had a full service resturant here!

Pros: Great food, fully vegan * Good value and selection * Healthy, no fried foods
Cons: Small / kiosk feel * limited parking *
