Review: Ive come to thuyen vien about 5 times now in the last 2 years or so and i should have written a review when i first came here. The food is very good, the people who run the place are extremely nice and also ask what kind of food you like and if you want they will offer their advice, i remember when i first starting going he let me try an appetizer that the were thinking of putting on the menu (the taco) at that time. Ive had so many different dishes i cant say what is my favorite but unlike other veggie places (which i still like) every dish stands on its own and is unique and different. The place is so relaxing and the food will definitely fill you up....i love to eat and i do admit i go overboard when i come here to eat but after that im good for like two days and i can just hibernate. This last time i went i tried the blueberry smoothie, very delicious as well as the vietnamese crepe......its definitely a place to try out when you want a great meal, in a relaxing environment with really nice people.
Pros: great food * great price * great service
Cons: could stay open a bit later * * |

Review: The vegan food here at Thuyen Vien is sensational. My favorites are the soy duck herb soup, the soy chicken drumsticks, and the veggie and noodle dishes that they offer. The egg rolls are the best. Be sure to wrap them in the leaves that are provided and add mint or whatever other condiments you choose. I can't say enough good things about this place. It is pristine, delicious, and fun with about 50 vegan selections and vegan smoothies. Yummy.
Pros: Healthy * Friendly staff * Excellent taste
Cons: * * |

Review: I even blogged it. On top of garlic chicken, pumpkin curry, pho, sushi, spring rolls, egg rolls, soy drumsticks, vegan fish with dill, tofu thuyen vien, (yaik, the whole menu taste great), try the new energy bowl. It's healthy and full of vegetables. It has rice and tofu so it is a whole meal of itself. If you like seafoody vegan food and/or seaweed, the seaweed xao lan (new item) is yummy. This restaurant has a full of flavors. Who cares about the expensive decor that this restaurant is lack of, the food is the best. That's what matters.
Pros: Full of yummy flavors * Price is very reasonable * Owners are friendly
Cons: Far from my home * * |

Review: I have a hard time deciding what to order, there are so many good options. Some of our favorites are the drumsticks with plum sauce and the garlic chicken. They are reasonably priced with portions that are just right/not too much food.
Parking is great, there are tons of spots right in front. The employees are pretty friendly and will make suggestions to help you decide. I like to call in my order and pick it up so I can go during my lunch hour.
Pros: easy parking * *
Cons: not open 7 days * * |

Review: It's so sad - I eat here more than once a week. When I call in they always know it's me. The lemongrass soy chicken is my favorite, and they also have a very similar dish made with ginger instead. A new garlic chicken dish just came out, and I hear they're also going to start doing kabobs, which they let me sample once. Some of the best vermicelli I've had has been here, with shredded tofu & eggrolls. The soy fish is an acquired taste, but if you're in an adventurous mood it's well worth it. More people need to know about Thuyen Vien!
Pros: Best food ever * Awesome family * Cards accepted
Cons: NONE! * * |

• Finally after eating here a bazillion times I managed to not order my addiction, lemongrass chicken, for once, and tried the pumpkin curry. It was so good! I was skeptical at first because I usually just stick with green curry, but it was one of the best dishes I've had. It's very flavorful & definitely something everyone should try.. response by Rambovianesque

Review: honestly, the best little hole in the wall place ever. The owners are some of the nicest people i have ever met, very welcoming, They even took a picture of my boyfriend and I to hang in the restaraunt. My parents are converting theyre cars to vegetable oil and the owners of Thuyen Vien gladly give them vegetable oil. The food is AMAZING! i have a few favorites, they are: roasted soy chicked w/ rice, soy chicken w/ broccoli, soy chicken drum sticks, and the garlic chicken. Try this place you wont regret it. My boyfriend and I have taken some carnivores there and they didnt talk the entire time they loved it so much.
Pros: AMAZING food * great service * homey
Cons: * * |

Review: I just spent four nights in Cypress, and ate at Thuyen Vien three of those (they're closed on Tuesdays). They were very welcoming; I got to know the owner, who was happy to discuss cooking, ingredients and his menu with me. The first night I had the roast chicken, which was a good dish for people who don't want to end up with too much food. It was a very tasty sweet sauce, with good texture. Next I tried the fish with a seaweed skin, one of their fanciest dishes. This one was an enormous portion - best for two people. It featured incredibly fresh mint, zucchini, jacima, and thin rice wraps - a Vietnamese fish tortilla as it were. Amazing. The last night, I took the recommendation of the owner and had the fish hot pot as well as the sweet and sour soup. Again, there were great herbs (basil in this case) in the soup, as well as chunks of tomato and other great vegetables - and he recommended eating the two together (fish pieces in soup).
Prices were unbeatable (from $6 for the chicken or soup to the highest-priced $14 fish wraps) for the quality and serving size.
Atmosphere was friendly, clean, and authentic. If I had any caution, it would be that they keep the door open (no A/C I could see), which can get warm (but is great for the environment). Go there - and ask them what you should have. They won't disappoint you.
Pros: excellent food * good value * friendly staff
Cons: * * |

• Every time I stay in Cypress, I make sure I get the chance to eat at Thuyen Vien. This past year, the owner upgraded his A/C system, and the place is as cool as can be. The food is great every time I go - and so varied I can always try something new. One dish I've discovered since my review is the banana flower salad - it has beautiful presentation, a generous portion size, and tastes incredible.. response by Forrestwolf

Review: I've been going here for a couple of years now... and let me tell you, you wont find food like this anywhere else. I highly recommend the Pumpkin Curry or their new Vegan Sushi. When I crave BBQ they have Vegan Spare Ribs and Chicken Nuggets with spicy BBQ Sauce. The family makes you feel as if you're eating at their house. The place is very clean. On Thanksgiving they even had a Vegan Thanksgiving Dinner spread which was delicious!!!
Pros: Good Portions * Friendly Service *
Cons: Closed Tuesdays * * |

Review: Was here with friends in March 08. It's a simple, small family-run restaurant. Food is cooked Vietnamese style. We ordered many dishes to share: a curry, a couple clay pots, Vietnamese crepe, veggie hot pot, and shredded banana flower salad. Aside from the crepe that was on the greasy side, everything else was tasty. The banana flower dish was delicious.

Review: I've been vegan for years and love finding new vegan restaurants to eat at. I found this one recently and went on my lunch break. I was really excited and ordered a ton of stuff and spent a lot of money (I eat a LOT). The only thing that was remotely good was the Vietnamese crepe, and even that was so-so. And the vegan beef tasted like what I imagine dog food would taste like. I hate to be a negative nancy among all these good reviews, but I will never go back. It was a big waste of money. On the plus side though, the staff was really friendly and the place seemed clean.
Pros: Friendly staff * *
Cons: Bland food * Yucky fake meat * |

Review: A Vietnamese colleague who is from Garden Grove recommended this restaurant when I travelled to Anaheim for a conference. I ate here every day, except for the one day it was closed (Tuesday). On that day, I ate at another Vietnamese vegan restaurant with great decor, but the food was nowhere as good. As a female eating alone, I was made to feel comfortable by the friendly owners, who recommended dishes, brought out samples for me to try and even showed me how they create traditional Vietnamese flavors using vegan ingredients. They frequently create new dishes for the menu, such as the Thai pumpkin curry, which is excellent. The menu is extensive and everything I tried was very good, with complex flavors. Prices are inexpensive. I highly recommend this place to anyone travelling to the Disneyland/Anaheim area.
Pros: great food * wide selection * friendly owners
Cons: small and basic decor * * |

Review: This is my and the boyfriend's favorite place to eat by far. After going for a change and eating at Bodhi tree (a different veg place in the area) last week, we decided NEVER to eat at bodhi tree again for the food cannot even compare to the quality, texture, and taste offered and served cheaply and delisiously at Thuyen Vien. When we go we usually always order the yellow curry soy "chicken" which is really yummy and filling, the roasted soy "chicken", and/or the crispy ginger fish. They all have their own unique flavors - oh and the jack fruit salad is really good too.
Pros: friendly staff, best food * comfortable dining *
Cons: want to know what else * there is good aside from * our regulars, tell me! |
