Review: We ate here last week after visiting the Jade Buddha Temple.

English menus were available.

The food was tasty and portions were huge. It was a good value place to eat.

Service was friendly and efficient.

I much preffered the Vegetarian Lifestyle restaurants but this is definitely worth a look if you are in the area.

Pros: Good food * good value *
Cons: A little out of the way * *

Review: After a viewing of the jade buddha, wading thru hordes of tourists, it was nice to relax here. I remember being a little confused about whether or not I was in the right place. I also wasnt so sure I was ordering what I wanted, but what do you expect with such a language barrier. I had a very nice meal. Not my fav in SH but definately worth the trip.

Review: i have eaten at jade buddha several dozens of times. i live 1 block away. the downstairs is a noodle shop with no english menu. very simple healthy offerings at a very good price. noodles for about 10 RMB per bowl. the upstairs is a fine dining experience with impressive decor. beautiful lights and wood carvings throughout. the veggies are really good. many of the faux meats are mushroom based so choose wisely so you don't end up with 4 dishes of mushrooms. you can order beer and smoke at this buddhist restaurant if you like. suitable for personal, family, or business outings. prices upstairs are 20-40 RMB per dish. reasonable and average prices for shanghai. food is very healthy and delicous. consistant good quality and service. the staff can't speak a lot of english, but they are kind and will look after you. they also have a small bakery adjacent to the restaurant where you can pick up some healthy baked chinese goods. the entrance to the restaurant is on jiangning lu. the entrance to the temple is on anyuan lu. enjoy.

Review: Set in the temple gardens the restaurant (upstairs, as downstairs was more cafe style and crowded) was well decorated. The staff were very pleasant but didn't speak English, however there was a menu in English with pictures. The food is described as 'meat' dishes which is a bit disturbing as there are 'offal' titles even though absolutely everything is vegetarain. Once over this hurdle the food was visually appealing and tatsed as good as it looked. It was fairly good value for money, although expensive by Chinese standards. The menu didn't state what the dish was actually made from, and our 'chciken' was made form mushroom (which my husband doesn't eat). The sweet and sour 'pork' was made form potato, it wa svery nice with good fresh veg. You do not have to pay to enter the temple if you just want to eat. If you enter via the temple make sure you keep your ticket to get entry back!

Pros: The setting! * The choice * the food presentation
Cons: No English spoken * *

Review: Ate lunch here in 11/05. English menu. Food was good, price was right. If i recall they fake meats were more simple such as vegetables or tofu rather than seitan or special prepared or distributed meats, but still very good. Staff spoke enough english. No garlic or onions, I can't remember if they use eggs in some. You can enter the restaurant for free from the side. Would definitely eat here again.

Pros: Cheap for Shanghai * Good service * Good food
Cons: Out of the way * *
