Pleasantly Surprised!
Posted on 01 / 16 / 2013When we planned a trip to Niagara Falls, Canada for a long weekend, Happy Cow helped us find the restaurants where we could have our vegan meals. We knew, however, that our last meal there would be atop the Skylon Tower in the rotating restaurant above the Falls, no matter what, even if that meant just eating side dishes.
Knowing this to be a conventional restaurant that caters to the masses, we asked the staff at the bottom of the elevator if we could view the menu so we could be prepared. Not very vegan friendly, but we were NOT going to leave this tourist haven before having a meal at the top of the Falls with the best view available.
After viewing their conventional menu and asking about substitutions, we were then ABSOLUTELY AMAZED when our waiter surprised us with an entirely SEPARATE VEGAN MENU, which even comes in its own elegant hardcover binding labeled "Vegan Menu!" We left this restaurant with just one complaint that we had to make known: that they don't publicize that they have this menu well enough, and not even the staff at the bottom of the elevator know it exists.
This being the honeymoon capital of North America, if not the world, newlywed vegan couples honeymooning there can appreciate knowing that they'll be well accommodated in this prestigious restaurant where they can dine before the most spectacular view of the Falls. If their vegan menu is still not featured on the skylon.com website while you are making your pre-trip plans to Niagara Falls, and the staff at the bottom of the elevator are still not aware of it, then don't complain that the food isn't at the level that it is at one of the Indian or Chinese restaurants below, but please complain that they're still hiding their vegan menu from other vegans like yourself who want to dine there.
And you'll never have a meal with a more phenomenal view of one of the natural wonders of the world!
