Review: I have been a customer there for years until two days ago when my six year old burned her fingertips at a neighboring store on a lightbulb. I went in and asked if I could buy a cup of ice. (Tap water was too warm on a 90 degree day to cool the burn and I needed to add ice to keep her fingertips from seering.) I explained the situation to the founder who was at the register, and she said that they didn't have any ice. I checked the freezer for something cold to hold on to until we could get to some medical treatment. There was a big bag of ice, so I thought I could buy that, (or part of it,) and I carried it to the counter. She saw the bag and instructed an employee to, \"Put that away, where the customer's can't see it! That is for our smoothies!\" When I read her, \"founder's letter,\" about values of, \"community responsibility,\" and supporting \"cruelty free products,\" I was even more surprised. I went back the next day and told her how disappointed that I was, and she said that, \"I'm not a nurse, I am trying to run a business, and I did the best that I could.\" We all are faced with moments of choice and I can not understand turning your back on a child in obvious pain.
Pros: Location * Products * Location
Cons: Expensive * Management * Average Food |

• Wow...I'm so not surprised that Beverly treated you that way. I've been going there for over a decade and let's just say she's not the most congenial store owner. If only more health food stores would open in Philadelphia she might be out of business. Hope you eventually received the treatment she needed!. response by velourialee

Review: good store. more of a granola store than, say, whole foods. the cafe offers pretty tasty, healthy food for a fair price. unfortunately they must not sell enough in the cafe to prepare the entrees to order. the entrees are all served out of what appears to be crockpots - so it is almost always overcooked - but still delicious.
Pros: fast * not expensive * tasty
Cons: limited menu * often overcooked * |

Review: I loved the food it was great and they are curteous, however I was on vacation and walked all the way there from hotel and was told I had to spend over $15.00 to use my credit card. Very dissapointing because I had to use the ATM and accrue a fee since it wasn't my bank.

Review: Warm and homey neighborhood store and cafe! Very attentive owners-when Whole Foods discontinued my doggie's favorite food, these guys made sure to keep it in stock for me. The lunch selections are many-I love the tempeh and tofu stews on a brisk day-always seem to hit the spot. Get them with or without brown rice to take out, or sit at one of the cute mosaic-topped tables and partake of the friendly atmosphere. Local newsletters and other reading material is readily available if you don't have something of your own handy.
Pros: macro-friendly * lots of healthy options * homey!
Cons: not on my own block! :-) * * |
