Veg haven in Ayutthaya

5 Posted on 11 / 26 / 2012

On the road next to the canal, can be found by yellow flag hanging outside. Closes early so go and get takeout for dinner.
Weren't always sure the name of what we were eating but the food tasted great. We had a paper describing vegan restrictions in Thai and we seemed assured that what we were given was vegan.
The food was soooo inexpensive-- the least amount of money I paid for food in Thailand. Maybe 20-30 baht per plate.
The man behind the counter was very friendly but I warn you that he didnt seem to speak English.

Pros: Inexpensive & delish, Takeout option, Friendly
Cons: Closes early

Nice Typical 'Jair' Eatery

3 Posted on 10 / 16 / 2012

The ususal selection of bain marie dishes on rice (only white unfortunately), quay teow soup, and no doubt other dishes to which that one would be privy if one spoke Thai! Relatively cheap - around 30B per dish - and undoubtedly cheaper the more 'local' one becomes. I went on a Sunday, and it was still open in the late afternoon.

Pros: Close to 'farang' area, Tasty, Friendly
Cons: Need to speak Thai to order a'la carte, not open for dinner

Charming Vegan Eatery

4 Posted on 03 / 27 / 2010

This is a charming little vegan eatery a few minutes walk from the (backpacker/tourist) centre of Ayuthaya. It's a typical Jeh (vegan, no garlic, onion etc) buffet style restaurant, with take-out available. Like most Jeh restaurants of its type, it opens early (~6AM) and closes around 2PM, so I got take-outs and carried them around for dinner, so ate here several times during my two days in Ayuthaya. It also sells small cans of Thai food which are useful to carry for emergencies :) Staff are friendly and some speak a tiny bit of English, though it wouldn't matter if they didn't. The directions were easy to follow and though small, it's easy to find.

Pros: vegan, cheap, take-out available
Cons: closes at 2PM
