Review: I am a vegan, and I get tired of always compromising when we go out. This time, my non-vego friends actually suggested we go here, as they had heard the food was good, how interesting. We went there for a late Sunday lunch. The menu was a little limited for a vegan, but did have some options that were interesting. I was excited to be offered a choice of vegan desserts. All the food was great, everyone enjoyed the meal, the service and the experience. If I lived in London, this would be a regular haunt.

Pros: service fast * comfortable booth seating * interesting meals
Cons: bit noisy * *

Review: Some breakfast! For American tourists this is a nice spot to have your beans and toast. I suggest telling them not to oil your bread. Its a tab bit boring, if you're local I'd suggest going across the street to La Pain for a French Breakfast. The staff at Eat and Two weren't too good at special requests. Its fine and all, but nothing special.

Review: Last week, at home in Edinburgh, my partner and I had been pondering where to go for breakfast that could both cater to me, and keep himself happy. We forgot about the one place that has build-your-own breakfasts and so ended up having something completely different instead.

This week, we're in London, so things should be better. I admit I'm surprised that Eat and Two Veg is the only place coming up on searches to do vegan breakfasts, but it wasn't too much out of the way, so we went along.

It fit the bill. I got a completely vegan breakfast which included lots of spinach - something I've only seen in Australia (and one posh cafe in Belfast) before. He got his eggs, (veggie) sausage etc. We both came out satisfied and happy. There was neither too little nor too much food, it was nicely cooked and it tasted great.

Vegan breakfast choices could have been improved if they used vegan sausages, and the main menu looked almost bereft of vegan options. We'll go back, but only for breakfast.

Pros: vegan breakfast * appropriate portions * spinach
Cons: a bit of a walk from tube * limited vegan choices *

Review: this place is not bad, but not brilliant either. Its pretty standard fare, but unfortunately its location means the price doesn't reflect this. Being on Marylebone High Street its quite expensive. The menu is pretty limited and unimaginative menu, and not many vegan pudding options. While I didn't have a bad eating experience here, I wouldn't go back or recommend it.

Pros: Nice diner setting * friendly staff * on a nice street
Cons: very expensive * food a bit bland * nothing special

Review: Almost every dish on the menu contains some form of meat substitute and the names of the dishes such as "crispy aromatic luck" just put me off. If I go to a vegetarian restaurant I don't want to eat something that has been prepared as a replacement for a meat dish.

Despite that, there are a few nice dishes on the menu. The restuarant has a long bar which you can sit at and is styled like an American diner.

Pros: Friendly staff * Nice interior *
Cons: Meat substitute dishes * Pricey *

Review: I had been to this restaurant two years ago, and didn't really like it that time. A friend suggested we meet here for lunch yesterday, so I thought I'd give it another chance. Who knows, things change.

I always find it a little sad when vegetarian restaurant don't offer enough vegan dishes. They had a few VO options, but nothing too exciting. The menu looks more or less unchanged from two years ago. My friend had the falafel and I had the burger. She said her falafel was quite tasteless, and my burger was just so-so.

The staff were friendly, but painfully slow. This is considering that we weren't even in a great hurry, but they still seemed to take forever.

There was only one dessert that was suitable for vegans, a fruit crumble which you had to pay 30p extra.

The location of this restaurant is in a nice area in London, I'll give it that. However, it just needs a little something more. Revamped menu, perhaps?

Pros: pleasant location * large restaurant *
Cons: not enough Vg items * slow service *

Review: Have been to Eat and Two Veg about 4 times now over the last couple of years and was a bit disappointed that the menu hasn't changed. Latest visit was Sunday 15 March for lunch and the food and service were, as ever, excellent. We ordered a vegan soya milkshake each (delicious) and the bottle of vegan white wine (lovely). I am veggie so had lots of choice but my vegan partner was disappointed that, actually, there are very few vegan dishes all of which he'd had before. Same for the desserts - only 2 vegan choices. I had the sunday roast (spinach and lentil nut roast with all the trimmings) which was gorgeous and far too much but i did have to ask for more gravy. Overall, a great place to eat but we are now looking at trying other places in london next time we visit to get more vegan choice on the menu!

Pros: excellent food * great service * amazing vegan milkshakes
Cons: not enough vegan choice * menu now dated *

Review: The restaurant looks great and for the most part, the staff are really friendly if a little slow. The food varies...the salad's are yummy. They used to be more flexible with their menu; now you can't swap marinated tofu for smoked! Apparently it's too tough for the chef!!! LOL! I'm not a fan of all the fake meat dishes. Being vegan it's not really what I look for in food! Could be more imaginative...

Review: Eat and Two Veg has a well-labelled menu of what is vegan or vegan-optional. I would say about half the items (not counting beverages) are vegan or vegan-optional. I was there twice, and greatly enjoyed their Marylebone Hotbone, which our waiter said was their most popular main plate ("soya lamb, cannellini beans and garden vegetables in rich red wine sauce served with cabbage and a choice of creamy mash or brown rice.") Creamy mash is mashed potatoes. That was as good as any dish at a gourmet veggie restaurant such as Millenium in San Francisco. I also enjoyed their Squash Salad--basically a combination raw and cooked salad with fresh salad greens, roasted butternut squash, green beans, nuts, seeds, cooked tofu, and a delcious creamy house dressing.

The wait staff was very friendly. Unfortunately, when I specifically ordered 2 veggie burgers for my plane ride with no tomatoes or ketchup of any kind (due to my tomato allergy), I found both burgers smothered in ketchup and tomatoes. I'm assuming it was the kitchen staff who didn't follow directions, but I really should have checked my order before leaving. The fries that came with the burgers were greasy, shoestring fries that tasted like fast food fries.

My advice to that restaurant would be to follow instructions better and to make more of the non-vegan items, vegan. For example, the Sunday special of Spinach and Nut Roast is not vegan although could easily be made so.

Note - An earlier reviewer found that there was smoking in the restaurant. As of December 2008, there was absolutely no smoking in this restaurant.

Pros: Delicious Food * Friendly Wait Staff * Organic Produce whenever possible
Cons: Difficulty following direction * Some non-vegan dishes could be veganized * No parking

Review: I've been to Eat and Two Veg a number of times, and it has never disappointed me.

I've had almost every vegan dish on their menu except for the breakfasts. I don't think the burgers they do are as good as Red Veg, but all the other mains I've had have been very good.

Great place to take non veggies for dinner as is well presented and professional.

There are better vegetarian restaurants around London, but this is one you should definitely visit.

Pros: Interesting environment * Plenty of vegan options * Chrissy Hynde sat next to us once :)
Cons: Not adventurous food * Burgers a bit so so *

Review: I had a 10 hour layover in London and decided to check this place out since they had a very nice website (love seeing my options ahead of time). The tube from Heathrow was quick and although I was a bit turned around, managed to find the place. I was shocked by the cigarette smoke however. This place touts itself as organic, local, etc. and maybe I'm just a Californian but being greeted in the cold winter with a blast of cig smoke as you walk into such a "healthy" place was off putting. The food itself was delicious however, as was the cocktail. The staff didn't stand out, good or bad. It was definitely a pricey meal, especially spending in dollars, almost akin to going out to Greens or Millenium (gourmet veg in San Francisco) but the decor was lovely, the food fresh and tasty (I had a burger) and I would definitely go back next time I'm in town.

Pros: Quality food you know will be good. * Clean, snazzy decor *
Cons: Indoor smoking (yes, I'm American) * High price *

• Indeed - though I've never seen or smelt anyone smoking there - I've been an occasional visitor for about 4 years now and I'm quite sensitive to cigarette smoke).. response by deerfold
• serasee - did you visit Eat and Two Veg in January 2008, when you posted your message? If they were allowing indoor smoking any time after 1st July 2007, they were breaking the law. See http://www.smokefreeengland.co.uk/ for more details.. response by baratron

Review: I took 6 non-vegetarian friends to dinner here and they absolutely loved it! The variety of dishes on offer, the quality of the food with its great flavours and textures met everyones expectations had us all raving. In addition, the service was excellent. Discreet, positive and friendly. Everyone said they will return with other friends! Great value for money too. We enjoyed a christmas dinner special, thai green curry, sausages and mash, warm goats cheese salad, grilled halloumi main course, and would recommend all those dishes. the starters were delicious, just enough portions and great flavours.

Review: We booked a table for lunch on Saturday. The diner style table was very comfortable as it could shut the next table's noises a bit.
A salad I ordered as a starter was huge and it even looked like a main dish. Chickpea soup which my husband ordered looked better than mine...
My choice of main course \"nut roast\" was huge again. It was good but I expected more colourful vegetables to come with such as carrot, broccoli and etc, not just peas.

Cons: slow * *

Review: I visited this restaurant with 2 other vegan friends for lunch on a thursday and had no problems getting a table even though it was fairly busy to begin with. However, we were quite shocked that there was not much of a vegan selection on the menu. The only main course vegan dish was the Thai green curry (with rice) which was delicious it has to be said - but it would have been nice to have had another couple of vegan main dishes to have chosen from. One friend had the 'EatV Burger' whilst the other had the 'Roasted Vegetable Burger' which both came with salad and french fries. The food was very average and certainly not worth the price of around £10 for just one main course. I suggest you visit their website where you can view the menu with prices (http://www.eatandtwoveg.com). The service was painfully slow and it took us several attempts to order our other courses. I would not recommend coming here unless you have at least 2 hours to spare. We found the dessert menu dissapointing - again not much of a vegan selection and the already expensive dishes cost extra if you wanted the dessert to be made vegan! It would have been lovely if there was a nice vegan chocolate cake. After all, vegetarians can eat vegan food if they want to but us vegans can't eat vegetarian food. I find this very disheartening since a vegetarian restaurant should be catering to vegans just as much (if not more) than vegetarians. After all, one can find a veggie burger and chips pretty much everywhere these days. Unfortunately, I won't be returning to 'Eat and Two Veg' and I would not recommend visiting this restaurant when there are so many other excellent alternatives - sorry ;-(

Pros: Central in London * *
Cons: Overpriced * Uninspiring * Very slow service

Review: This was my first and last visit to this place. As mentioned by others the price of the food is very expensive for what you get. A burger and fries is still only a burger and fries and the fact that one place offers it with some green on the side does not justify the pice hike. The service was very slow and the vegan options were very limited, i vegan main course and 1 desert if you paid and extra 30p for the vegan frozen ice cream (Taking the desert to over £6.

All we had was a main course and soya latte (the second time of asking) which meant we were in there for 2 and a half hours. The service was poor and communication was lacking in this establishment. I must admit i have found a better quality of food and service at places for half the price. Shame really as i had good expectations.

Review: My wife and I took our 1 1/2 year old son here and had a great time. The staff is friendly and accomodating (they have height chairs, which we really appreciated) and the atmosphere is casual but comfortable. The noise level of the music was quite loud, but once we said something, they turned it down. The men is very clearly marked, and they offer vegan options for a few non-vegan dishes. They have a few vegan offerings, which were pretty good, particularly the starters, such as the spring rolls and Thai Satay. The grilled Halloumi (a slab of firm, salty, Middle Eastern cheese) was excellent. We liked it enough that we went back twice. One more thing: we are pretty sure it is NOT the world's first meat-free diner, as they say on their website. Kate's Joint in New York City has been around for a while, probably longer than this piace.

Pros: Casual atmosphere * Clearly marked menu * Family friendly
Cons: Not enough vegan options * A little loud *

Review: Judging by the website and some of the reviews, I was a bit disappointed by this restaurant. The food itself was delicious and very tasty indeed, but I was really expecting something a bit more classy - even though I did know it was a diner style place. Call me a snob, but the red diner like chairs made me feel like I was walking into a cheap burger joint - and that, along with some people smoking - totally put me off. While the food was good, the presentation was very unattractive and again, this didn't help my already low opinion.

So, in a nutshell, if you want to eat in an aesthetically pleasing restaurant, this one won't cut it. If you don't care about such things, and only want nice food, then this will do just fine.

Pros: Nice portions * Location * Tasty food
Cons: Smoking * Decor * Horrible chairs

Review: My partner and I are vegetarian (he's vegan) and go here quite a lot for the satisfying veggie burgers and fries.
Breakfasts are also a speciality. The fruit crumble and soy custard is worth the wait; the aromatic 'luck' pancake starters are delectable. I always have a raw juice to feel healthier, as most of it is good old comfort food.

Carnivorous colleagues are 50/50 with this place, however. The meat substitutes are like "cardboard" to some eyes, although the skinny fries go down a treat. Make sure they aren't fussy.

Service can be very slow if you're waiting to pay and if you don't get a booth you can feel a bit cramped so don't go during lunchtime weekends.

Pros: Comfort food * Good juices and dessert *
Cons: Not cheap * Service can be slow *

Review: Great place for a fun dinner. Not haute cuisine, but classic american diner fare, vegetarian style. Lots for vegans, good wine list and quick service. A very slick restaurant which would be a good place to take even your meat eating friends. Oddly, they still allow smoking in the front of their very large restaurant. Every time I've visited the place has been very busy, even on a quiet Tuesday in January!
