Rare honesty and accommodation about ingredients
Posted on 03 / 31 / 2012This place has many virtues. First, they are very explicitly
veg-friendly (even labeling fish sauce and offering alternatives,
which is virtually unheard of at East Asian places). Second, the
building is lovely and the ambiance wonderful.
Set against this, there are a few negatives. First, the food wasn't
terribly flavorful: the pho came with fresh herbs that were actually
fresh, so the broth had a lovely delicacy to it, but the rest was not
delicate so much as bland. Second, there was little by way of actual
vegetable, just lots of noodle. Third, the server was extremely
friendly and also extremely forgetful.
For people who don't like meaty, beefy broths, the broth here was a
real virtue. That alone can put it well over threshold for some. If
that's not enough of a draw, the rest makes it ho-hum (especially in
London, which has so much else to offer).
Cons: could use more vegetable
