Great resource for better life choices
Posted on 12 / 12 / 2011I've been to many EarthSave potlucks, and I encourage everyone to attend no matter where you live. The regional group (SENC) members were the first people I reached out to when I moved here a couple years ago. The Wilmington area is not vegan friendly, and this group is an excellent resource when you are trying to make healthier choices.
I went to several potlucks in 2009-2010. I hadn't been pretty much at all in 2011, but I just went to the 2011 Thanksgiving potluck. It was a great event held down at the beautiful Shelton Herb Farm in Leland. It was a perfect day to eat outdoors, and the people were wonderful company. The chapter founder Pat is a truly amazing person who is a positive force in our community for many reasons.
The only downside for me is that I'm vegan but the potlucks aren't. I hate to mention it because there's always vegan food and it's great, but there's also eggs, dairy, honey, and occasionally someone brings fish, or a dish made with chicken stock. This is an issue for me because I'm a longtime vegan for ethical reasons. The group is about outreach, and helping people who are starting to make better food choices. Folks (especially in this area) are making great strides toward a better life, while I'm in a different place.
That said, of course I still highly recommend the group, and will continue to participate and publicize events.
Pros: People, Founder, CommunityCons: Not Vegan
