The best wholefood shop in Lancashire!

Single Step is currently the best wholefood shop I have discovered in Lancashire. The produce they have on offer is sourced ethically - no tax dodging companies or air-flown produce here! Herbs and spices all packaged (self-service) and sold by weight. Big range of magazines on all sort of ethical issues, from veganism to permaculture to Amnesty International to anti-capitalism.

Pros: Ethically sourced products!, Great information noticeboards!, Great selection of magazines!
Cons: Not as cheap as could be., Could do with more choice

A fine choice of produce available. Handily right underneath the Whale Tail Cafe.

Their self service herbs and spices is amazing. I walked in there for the first time and nearly wet myself with excitement.

They have an awesome selection of other produce, from household products, to toiletries to tofu and fake meats, and a lovely selection of snacks too!

I've been a Simgle Step customer for as long as I can remember (mother used to take me :-) )
It's everything a wholefood shop should be. They practise what they preach and go to great lengths to ensure their practises are as ethical as possible.

Self service herbs and spices, grains, nuts, seeds and dried fruit are remarkably cheap.
A good choice of sausage rolls, samosas etc and plenty of sweet snacks. No nasties!

They also have a decent collection of exciting vegan cookbooks! And the shop smells lovely.

Pros: Cheap essentials, Ethical, Huge diverse range

The perfect whole food shop

Firstly, I must say that I've worked here twice (for a total of 5 years), so I'm a little biased! However, we have worked hard to make Single Step the kind of shop where people would want to go.

They check their suppliers regularly to ensure there are no GM ingredients, that everything is vegetarian (preferably vegan), etc.

A great place to go for general groceries, snack bars, pasties, etc. Plus, homeopathic and alternative remedies, loose (and therefore very cheap) herbs and spices, alcohol, greetings cards, vegan ice cream, plus a large selection of alternative, gay/lesbian, green/ecological, political and other magazines.

Pros: varied, healthy, friendly
Cons: a few stairs into the building

Very colourful looking like a stereotypical cooperative. There is a jam packed notice board. Well stocked, some toiletries.
