Review: I have the pleasure of living about a half-hour walk from Cafe Happy. The restaurant itself is very small, with only one table and a few window seats. It is owned by an older Chinese couple who don't speak much English. This language barrier, while occasionally proving somewhat difficult, has never gotten in the way of ordering for my friends or I.
The walls are plastered with pictures of all their dishes, from soy meat sandwiches to vegetable curries, as well as snippets of different reasons people go vegetarian and brochures with more information.
The food itself is delicious. There are so many options I never know what to get. The dishes always have the perfect spice/flavoring. The owners themselves are very accomodating. In addition to most of the dishes being vegan, they will make bubble tea with soy milk upon request. The first time I came in to the restaurant and asked for vegan options, they helped me out graciously. Every time I have come in after that, they have remembered me and remembered my veganism, often offering my a soy milk bubble tea on my way out (which are delicious).
My favorite dish is definitely the ma-po tofu, but the vegetable/soy meat buns and noodle dishes come in close behind. For those lacto-ovo vegetarians out there, they also have ice cream and many cheese/soy meat sandwiches on croissants, both of which I have heard are delicious.
It is a bit of a hassle to park, as the restaurant itself is smack in the middle of downtown Kirkland, but it is worth it once you get inside. I would also recommend walking if you can, as the area is very nice (it is close to a park and a library).
All in all, I would reccomend this restaurant to vegetarians, vegans, and omninovres alike. There is definitely something everyone will enjoy!
Pros: kind staff * vegan friendly * delicious food
Cons: small space * language barrier * parking |

Review: I've been to Cafe Happy 3-4 times and I generally really enjoy the food. It's pretty cheap (around $7 for a meal), and there are a lot of vegan options.
The place is very, very small, and it's a little uncomfortable, but the owners are nice and helpful. Language barriers are difficult, but communication gets done, eventually.
I usually order noodles with veggies, because I'm not a huge faux meat fan. The one time I ordered tofu, it was not very fresh, and hadn't been seasoned really, at all.
People seem to come in mainly for bubble tea.
Pros: Inexpensive * Many vegan choices * Yummy
Cons: Tiny space * parking is difficult * bad tofu |
