Great inexpensive and fast veg/an chinese.
Posted on 12 / 28 / 2010This is another one of those excellent choices for those that have to bridge the gap between the carne eaters and the veg heads. But, it still caters more towards the veggie side of things, so you don't feel grossed out and uncomfortable if you are a sensitive veg/an.
I love this place everytime I go, and there really aren't many better deals out there than the lunch choices. At $4.95 for one main dish item, plus soup(1 veg/1 vegan(Miso)/1 fish option), cabbage, rice(veg fried/white/brown)or noodles, and a fortune cookie. Add other items for $1 more per main dish. Lunch choices include - Gan Sao Tempeh, Sweet & Sour Cho Balls, Tofu Mushroom Garlic, Tofu Broccolli plus many more. Dinner has bigger portions of the lunch items, plus nightly specialties like Sweet and Spicy Tempeh, Devil Soy Nuggets, and Black Bean Paste Tofu. Also, lot's of inexpensive side dishes, juices, beer, and bottled healthier sodas and teas.
The atmosphere is a little cafeteria style, with a slight Shanghai theme, and unfortunately, like many chinese food establishments in California, there is a live fish aquarium. You can avoid watching our little friends swim their suffering laps by taking advantage of the excellent outdoor patio seating. Also, for those with sensitive bathroom needs, this restaurant shares a bathroom with the City of Santa Cruz parking garage, so it is often messy and crowded.
Cons: Not great bathrooms., Fish aquarium., serves light meat.
