Review: They're the only game in town when it comes to vegan pizza. The downside is that about 75% of the time, they get our order wrong (why, I have no idea), and it takes a lifetime to get the food.

I feel very sorry for the waitress because WW employs one person to work the entire room (10-12 tables).

The pizza is different almost every time we have it, they can be rather stingy with toppings, but when they get it right, it's really tasty. It is also rather expensive.

When they get it right, it's really good, but we wish we had another choice.

In their favor, they have been serving more vegan (!)entrees lately, and their black olive and white bean soup is to die for.

Pros: Buckeye bars * Pizza (when they get it right) * Location
Cons: Slowest service anywhere * Often get orders wrong *

Review: Fire closes local vegetarian restaurant
Wednesday, November 4, 2009 2:31 PM
By GARY SEMAN JR.
ThisWeek Staff Writer
Whole World Natural Restaurant & Bakery, a refuge for vegetarians and vegans for more than 30 years, will remain closed for several weeks after a fire ripped through the Clintonville space last week.

Manager Todd Warden said the store's owners are assessing the damage and hope to have Whole World back in business by Dec. 1.

"It's going to be a new place for the most part," he said.

A beverage cooler caught fire around 6 a.m. Oct. 28, and the flames spread throughout the store, 3269 N. High St. The restaurant, also badly damaged by smoke, will need a new floor, electrical wiring and HVAC equipment, Warden said.

Baker Maryellen "Mel" Curran arrived for work early Oct. 28 and noticed smoke billowing out of the building, Warden said. She called 911 unaware that the fire emanated from Whole World. When she went inside, she found the cooler ablaze.

Columbus firefighters extinguished the fire. The cause was electrical, said Columbus fire battalion chief David Whiting.

Whole World, owned by Dan and Kim Otanicar, was founded 31 years ago. The small eatery, which seats about 45, is known for its made-from-scratch baked goods, soups, sandwiches and pizzas, among other fare.

Jennie Scheinbach, owner of the Pattycake Vegan Bakery in Clintonville, said she's a regular customer at Whole World and its closing is a blow to the vegan and vegetarian communities.

"I hope it returns soon," she said. "My thoughts are with those guys."

She said she once experienced a small fire inside one of her ovens, which closed her restaurant for five days.

"I know what that's like," she said. "It's scary."

It's not the only bad news for Clintonville diners. Nancy's Home Cooking, which has been closed since June 1, was slated to reopen Nov. 1, but contracting issues and several illnesses will keep the doors shut for several more weeks, an owner said last week.

Review: We went here yesterday after a hike. While the soup and cookies were quite good, the sandwiches were nothing special and bland. The service was good at first, but when more diners showed up we were ignored. We waited over twenty minutes to get our check and the finally gave up and went to the counter to ask for it. Like other reviewers have stated, the bathroom situation was a little creepy.

Pros: good soup + cookies * *
Cons: poor servive * over-priced food * weird bathroom setup

Review: We recently met some friends for an early lunch at Whole World. The food was good, but it was by far the worst service I've ever had at any restaurant. For starters, they actually FORGOT to come unlock the door when the restaurant was set to open, so we were standing there knocking and knocking like mooks for fifteen minutes! There is very little seating, and the bathroom is in kind of a weird place in the basement. We were the first people seated, but several other groups came in, ordered, and ate before we ever got our food. It took a full hour for our food to show up, but we hadn't ordered anything particularly complicated. This was especially tough because we were dining with two small children who got quite antsy while waiting. I would describe our waitress as sort of "detached," like she didn't really care whether she was there or not. Besides all this, the broccoli burger I ate was excellent, and my son enjoyed his apple pizza a great deal. I'm not sure we'd eat here again, though.

Pros: good food * vegan options *
Cons: terrible service * lack of seating *

Review: My partner and I had a large vegan pizza with soy cheese, veggies, and whole wheat crust. It was tasty, but not the best vegan pizza I've had. The other dishes seemed cool, as well as all the vegan treats. Our server said the wait time on the pizza would be about 30 minutes, and it ended up being closer to 45 - a little too long to wait for going out to eat.

Pros: vegan-friendly * good selection * good location
Cons: long wait time * *

Review: I usually don't make it here for lunch and dinner... however, they have an awesome brunch on Sundays which accommodates both vegetarians and vegans which I frequent. The prices are good for the brunches and the portions are filling. Whole World also has a good ambiance to it which is a further attraction to me to make me keep wanting to come back.

Review: I moved to Columbus about a year ago and have eaten here a number of times. The vegan baked treats are good. I haven't had any entree or salad that was better than just so-so and have actually been served salad that contained many rotten lettuce leaves and an entree from the specials board that smelled and tasted spoiled (I didn't eat it of course!). The service is sadly also sub-par. I really wanted to like this place since I'm a vegan and try to eat only at all veg places but honestly - you're better off eating somewhere else or at home.

Pros: All veg * Baked goods *
Cons: Poor service * So-so food * Spoiled food

Review: I love their vegan desserts. The food can be wonderful and your friend can have an average meal. I usually order off the specials but find that its a roll of the dice. They have great salads.

Pros: desserts * location * knudson cherry cider!!
Cons: food sometimes o.k. * *
