Radical Eats Grand Opening new location
Posted on 07 / 04 / 2011
Wonderful idea to host a grand opening with free food and drink samples, serving large entree portions so no one left hungry.
Thank you, Staci Davis, owner and proprietor, for inviting the Vegan Meetup group to be a part of your event.
Food was excellent, fresh, authentic Mexican with a Texas flair, as much as possible locally sourced, all plant based, so no worries for us vegans.
I started out with the Contorno, an appetizer plate available as 1, 2 0r 3 side orders of rosemary potatoes, black eyed peas with okra, and baby pattypan squash with tomatoes and basil - gently sauteed and well seasoned with fresh herbs.
Then onto a corn pudding, reminiscent of spoonbread, yet lighter, with fresh corn topped with tomatoes and peppers. Good enough to be dessert!
My entree of choice - Staci's famous tamales; spinach corn tamales with rice and black beans on the side.
Freshly made aqau frescas were available to drink; the watermelon fresca satisfied my thirst as only watermelon can.
Intimate, in a bodega sort of way, which adds to the feel of being in a small Mexican village, while only a few miles north of our nation's fourth largest city, in a near northside, mostly Hispanic neighborhood.
Convenient location, couple miles inside loop 610 east of I-45. For those driving in from the far flung 'burbs, Radical Eats new location is worth the time it takes to get there, and if timed right, can be combined with a trip to the big Farmers Market, and Caninos, on Airline.
Radical Eats has a small garden out back, from which they plan to harvest herbs and as many of their in season vegetables as possible, keeping the food offered fresh and local.
The convenient location is a plus, yet a minus for the near future; major construction to widen Fulton Street will be ongoing for some months. There is some parking adjacent to the restaurant, though this too is affected by Fulton St. construction; side street parking available.
Very good fresh, locally sourced food, friendly staff, convenient location
Construction on Fulton Street, small
