The Lodge at Christmas

5 Posted on 04 / 04 / 2013

My partner and I stayed at the Lodge over Christmas 2012.
During our 'orientation' trip around part of the island on our first morning, our host Mark told us a little of the history of the place, and explained why the ridge on which the Lodge sits is called - Morne Jaloux' which means 'jealous hill'. The reason why other residents have always been envious of this location is the lovely cooling breezes that are a feature.
That is not the only reason why visitors to the Lodge should be envied!
This really is the most delightful place, a quite unique holiday experience, from the comfortable and characterful accommodation, to the wonderful views all around the island, the exotic gardens, lovely company of our hosts and fellow guests, and of course the fabulous vegan meals, taken on the terrace. Dinner is a highlight of every day, by candlelight and to a soundtrack of cicadas, tree frogs, and an amazing selection of Mark's music.
The Lodge comes highly praised by previous visitors, and it does not disappoint, from the moment you are collected at the airport and whisked away to Morne Jaloux, high above capital city, St Georges.
Grenada is a beautiful tropical island, and many visitors come to the hotels along the beach or arrive for a brief visit via the large cruise ships that regularly appear in the bay.
But staying at the Lodge is a way to experience more of the real Grenada and its lovely people. It is situated among private houses, and the neighbours greet you whenever you go out for a walk. Staying at the Lodge also means that you probably need to use the local buses to get around, and that is an experience not to be missed!!
If you want a restful, interesting, exotic, romantic, friendly holiday, with delicious vegan food, the Lodge is for you. Oh, and we didn't even have much trouble from the mosquitoes!

Pros: Delicious vegan food, Wonderful views, Unique atmosphere

Better than excellent!

5 Posted on 04 / 22 / 2011

The Lodge is an exceptional place in every respect and even though the beautiful island of Grenada has a lot to offer, the trip is worthwhile even just for staying at the Lodge (an old plantation mansion)! We stayed there in April of 2011. Mark and Mary are gracious, warm hosts, who do everyting to make their guests as comfortable as possible. Mark took us on an orientation the first day to show us additional veg-friendly restaurants and gorgeous beaches, took us on an interesting half-day island tour on another day, and into town on several occasions. He also organized an excellent hiking guide for us. Mary cooks amazing three-course meals which will appeal to anyone, meat-eaters included. We are vegetarian, and enjoyed the organic, local and innovative dishes, that nourished both the body and our souls. Apart from the delicious and nutricious food, the location of the Lodge provides almost 360 degree views over the island and the lovely town of St. George's. It has beautiful gardens. The room was very clean and comfortable, with a huge private balcony. There also is a terrific exercise pool. This truly is a perfect place to relax and recharge your batteries, to be inspired to cook healthful organic meals, and to enjoy outstanding hospitality. It is a gem! Don't miss it.

Pros: delicious, healthy, plentiful

Excellent food and beautiful accommodation

5 Posted on 02 / 07 / 2011

My girlfriend and I stayed at The Lodge for 2 weeks in January. Our number one criteria for choosing the place was availability of vegan food. There aren't many options to choose from in the Caribbean for vegan travelers. Secondly we wanted to be away from tourist masses and to experience something in the nature.

Everything worked out perfectly for us. The food was excellent. We had lot's fresh organic fruits daily which are difficult to get or really expensive in Finland where we live. Optional pasta lunch was also very good on the days when chose to stay at The Lodge and just chill out. Each night we had something new for the dinner. We came back home with lot's of new ideas how to cook tasty and healthy vegan food.

And the nature. We got what we wanted which was to see and walk in rainforest, cool our feet in water fall, snorkel and just to relax on quiet beaches where we didn't many or any other tourists at all.

The Lodge itself is situated on a hill top with view to both Atlantic ocean and Caribbean sea. The room was really beautiful with the view from the huge balcony. And something we found as a bonus was the 25 meter swimming pool where you can get good excercise and cool down during the hottest hours of the day.

Hospitality and helpfulness of Mark and Mary are above the service you get at bigger resorts. Grenada, The Lodge, Mark and Mary made the best holiday ever for us.

Petteri, Finland

Pros: Variety of food, Room and balcony with a view, Not too many tourists
