They serve good food for a great cause. The barley risotto cakes are very flavorful as well as the grilled cheese. It is also fun to watch them cook.

Incredible food ...

4 Posted on 08 / 09 / 2011

I was in Providence with my wife for the Rock n Roll Half Marathon. We arrived around lunch time, and was looking for a place to eat. We stumbbled across this place, and ended up eating there 4 times in 3 days. We had lunch twice and dinner twice. Needless to say, the food was incredible. We had:
1. RTK
2. Sauteed Greens
3. A special called The Scream
4. The Mac and Cheese
5. The Veggie Burger

And a couple of other specials that they had. The Chef's were very helpful, and I am going to attempt to make a couple of the dishes myself.

Pros (I needed to add a few more): Healthy cuisine, huge portions.

Cons: None that I can think of ...

I highly recommend this place ... It is amazing.

Pros: Excellent Food, Great Value, Local Ingredients
Cons: None

Yes please

I had the cajun spiced tofu with sweet potato puree and greens. It was delicious. Soundtrack provided by a seemingly spontaneous group playing Irish folk music. It was fairly busy on a Saturday night, with just a few spots at the counter near the grill, so we got to see our food prepared.

Pros: relaxed atmosphere, inexpensive
Cons: little seating space

good stuff

4 Posted on 02 / 09 / 2010

Ate here a couple of times and I'm really happy that this place exists. It's comfy, cozy, delicious, local, feels healthy...and it's DOWNTOWN...where the vegan pickins are slim!!! I've had both the soups which are delicious...the vegan chicken soup comes with fresh kale and purple carrots and is excellent! The Spicy Portugese sandwich feels a little bit shameful but is a sure-fire hangover cure. The Sweet potato puree is magic and the vegan Mac-n-cheese made me so full that I felt like I had to roll down the street when I was done. The staff all seemed nice and I love knowing that the restaurant is supporting local farmers. There's also a separate bar.

Pros: yummy, food is pretty, good value
Cons: needs more sweets

Sorry to say, I was disappointed...

We were very excited to hear that AS220 was opening a new restaurant with significant vegan options and a vegan chef. On our first (and last) visit, we ordered a ton of stuff off the menu and specials board so that we could sample a little of everything. Here's our take on it... The butternut soup from the specials board was very bland and tasted like straight up pureed butternut squash with no spices, salt, etc. The white bean puree appetizer was terrible; it tasted as if a lot of sweetener (sugar or agave nectar?) had been added to it. I don't know why it was prepared this way instead of in a savory way with garlic, salt, lemon juice, etc. (Maybe someone got the sugar container mixed up with the salt container?) The bright spot of our meal was the crispy fried chickpea appetizer. These were outstanding with a delicious garlic and smoke flavor. For our main courses, we each got a vegan sandwich with "turkey", some greens, and cheeze on raisin bread. The sandwich was so tiny! It was cut in half, and each half took two bites to eat. The cheeze wasn't melted, the sandwich was cold, and there was not much flavor to the sandwich itself. I think the worst part of the whole experience was the woman at the counter who took our orders. She was loudly going on and on about herself the whole time we were there, and she yelled out at us when each item of food was ready in a very dramatic way. We appreciate that AS220 is a casual, fun place -- but that doesn't mean that we want to hear some attention-hungry chick screaming about how quirky she is during our entire meal. I really wish that I could give the place a better review because I'm sure that everyone running the restaurant has the best of intentions. Maybe we'll give it another try in six months. I hope that other folks have a better experience here!

Pros: fried chickpea appetizer
Cons: bland food, tiny portions, obnoxious counter girl
