Review: This place is great, all vegetarian and very good. It is in the back of a small health food store. Very busy and crowded with beach goers and locals phoning in their orders. It took a while to get our food but it is very small and just one guy cooking while he chats with his regulars. Easy to get stuff with no cheese. Huge portions.

Review: Paradise Found was a great find! When visiting Hawaii in May to get married and honeymoon on the North Shore, someone (a waiter from another restaurant, believe it or not :)) suggested this little place as we were having a bit of a hard time finding good vegan food to eat. Go figure! You'd think Hawaii would have it all with such fresh tropical fruits and veggies but alas, we were at somewhat of a loss. This place saved the day and was quite tasty indeed. We went there a couple times. Everything we had was great and we were so glad to find it and the little health food store, Celestial, that's connected to it too. We would definitely recommend it!

Review: tucked away behind the health food store, park in the post office. had the generous portion of a taco salad with the tastiest guacamole i've ever had - easily could have split with another person, and was reasonably priced. this place is a special spot of the north shore!

Review: I had the tempeh gyro, vegan style, and I didn't really like it, but then I don't really like tempeh. The sunset smoothie was great (I ordered it without honey, which they forgot and had to make it again. I was also subject to a tirade about honey and how the cook doesn't understand why vegans don't eat honey). The sunset smoothie had chocolate soymilk, bananas and peanut butter and was delicious, like a banana-ey reeses peanut butter cup smoothie. It took a long time to get our food. We went back the next day and I ordered the green thai curry, which was really delicious. This time they forgot to make the smoothie altogether, but at least it came without honey when it did come. Overall, it's a great place to get delicious vegan food if you can ignore the unexceptional service.

Review: Despite having the ability to cook for ourselves in our rented camper, we decided to try Paradise based on the Happy Cow reviews. The first time we went the staff was there, but we were turned away because they were closed. We went again the next day and ordered two breakfast burritos and a thing they call the Nana Nutty which sounded like a sweet breakfast quesadilla with peanut butter, bananas, granola, and honey. We ordered it without the honey which the guy taking the order shouted across the kitchen to the guy making the food. That guy then said "Oh, so you guys will be really happy when the bee colonies collapse, right?" To which I replied "No we like bees, we're not looking forward to their ultimate demise." He then said, "I was raised vegetarian but I never understood why people wouldn't eat honey." Not interested into getting into a debate over honey, I simply said "Well, I don't eat it cuz it's bee barf." This was news to the guy who had taken the order, so he started talking about that. The guy who was cooking the food got irritated by his friend's lack of knowledge regarding the barf aspects of honey and he seemed to grow more irritated as he had to explain it to him. In the end he said something like "...but honey is the furthest thing from barf. I was a beekeeper I know about this stuff." Wanting the whole situation to end, my boyfriend said "Food is a really personal decision." to which the cook replied "Yeah, it's really personal both ways." in a pissed off tone. I was amazed that I had to even entertain this conversation at a place I'd found on Happy Cow that is purported to be vegan-friendly and has the word vegan all over it's menu. In the end, the burritos came, as did a few sideways glances from the cook that made us feel uncomfortable and unliked, but the Nana Nutty that had started the whole controversy was never delivered. After waiting 10-15 minutes for it, we decided to pay our bill and get out of there without mentioning the missing item. I won;t eat at Paradise again and I would caution vegans against bringing up honey in the place. The guy is vegetarian, runs a vegetarian restaurant, serves vegans, and yet doesn't have a clue why vegans are vegan (as evidenced by his super lame colony collapse statement) or what a pain it is to be hassled about our food choices, especially at "vegan-friendly" establishments. The store gets a thumbs up, the restaurant an absolute thumbs down.

Pros: tasty burrito * good locale *
Cons: not vegan friendly * argumentative staff * incomplete order

Review: We stopped by for a late lunch while on vacation and were the only ones there. Good thing since it's a small place. The food was great. Yummy wraps/gyros and smoothies although we had to be sure to order vegan ones. I browsed around the store while waiting for our orders and while it's a small shop, it had a lot of great items, even ones I haven't seen before in LA.

Pros: tasty food * only veggie place on North Shore * cute little store
Cons: small space if crowded * *

Review: I visited Paradise Found on a vacation to Hawaii in 2001. After several days of living on Chinese food and pineapple, the Paradise Found Café was just that: like finding culinary paradise! The food is just what I was hoping for: a perfect marriage of standard vegetarian staples with traditional and local foods.

Before I get into the food, I just have to describe the surroundings. The café is tucked away in the back of the Celestial Natural Foods store, next to the Haleiwa Post Office. Home-grown construction projects have expanded and divided the space. These are painted, vividly - the photos below say it all. Every inch of wood is covered with fanciful paintings and inscriptions of every hue. There's a narrow counter where you can sit and drink a smoothie or vegetable juice, or settle down in one of the bright red vinyl banquettes that add to the visual cacophony. If you're bored waiting for your order to arrive, you can read the many quotations and notes written on the walls.

We arrived toward the late end of lunchtime and were almost the only customers. This seemed lucky, as the sole employee was both our waitress and chef. I fear the level of service might suffer when there was more than one table and one juice-drinker at the counter to worry about! Yet the food was consistently excellent. We ordered way too much (as is our habit when we've been deprived of our veggies) and still managed to finish every bite.

Our appetizer was a plate of nachos covered with everything you'd expect, black bean chili, and an unexpected addition of raw cucumber that was actually very tasty. For entrees, we ordered a Maui Taro Burger and a Coconut Milk Curry. Both were fantastic. The burger was everything a Hawaiian burger should be: made in Hawaii with delicious chunks of taro and poi inside. It came topped with shredded raw beets in addition to the usual stuff. Crunchy and again, interesting. The curry was divine! They take their tofu vegetable scramble and simmer it in a medium spicy curry, then serve it over a huge mound of rice, with a side salad. Of all these delicious treats, the most expensive was the nachos and each plate alone was more than enough for one person, even a large man (as opposed to a small-ish Truly!)

Pros: local specialties * funky atmosphere * flexible
Cons: hard to find * *

Review: Really intimate, and small restaurant on the North Shore, worth making the trip for! Since I've gone almost totally raw, it was nice to be able to eat a good, filling meal there. The folks that work there are soooo friendly! They are the nicest people! And were willing to accomodate special requests. Delicious smoothies! Gotta try 'em! (I gave 'em a 4 instead of a 5 'coz they're not vegan, still have icky cheese and stuff, otherwise, great!)

Pros: Very relaxed atmosphere * Great staff! *
