Review: i think bawarchi is great, although they are still working out some major kinks in their flow. the atmosphere is kind of chaotic, and the vegan dishes aren't labeled, but the chef will come out and tell you which dishes are vegan. the food is good overall and really well priced. i am looking forward to eating here more often.
Pros: cheap * fast * good food
Cons: vegan dishes not labeled * chaotic atmosphere * |

Review: Was here in Nov 09, this place had just opened and was eager to give it a try as I had been craving good Indian food. Well, I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed my lunch dining experience here.
Bawarchi is similar to the typical India Sweets and Spices buffet concept, except that the entire set up is more contemporary with warm lighting, nice wooden case glass case display of steamboat, black & red serving plates reminence of Japanese ceramic dining ware. The plates really make a big difference in the dining experience. It makes the food seem like bento style, except it's Indian food and not Japanese.
We were told that the chef is the original chef from The Samosa House (Bhahat Bazaar).
My 2 friends and I ordered two combo special meals to share ($8 each), and that was enough food for all 3 of us. We were able to pick out 6 vegan dishes as part of our combo meals, and everything tasted all right. The spicy tofu was yummy. The jackfruit was especially delicious. It was not too salty or sour like that served by The Samosa House when I used to get it there. After our meal we cooled our taste buds with fresh coconut water (in shell).
The space is small but it's suitable for take away or eating it if you can find a seat. Seems to be popular already as it was crowded when we went.
At the time of our visit, there were no labels for the vegan dishes, so we had to ask repeatedly, and the server behind the counter didn't seem to know. The chef had to come and tell us which were vegan. About half of the 20 dishes on the steamtable were vegan. We suggested to them that they should place signage (sticker) next to the vegan items to make it easy for customers. Vegans note: According to the chef, the wheat bread is vegan. Naan is not.
Pros: good food * so many choices * decor is modern and appealing
Cons: need to label vegan dishes * * |
