Review: Ah, Flat Top! Every time we're in Fort Wayne, we usually make it a point to go here. As far as I can know, there's no other chain in the states, doing Mongolian-style grills, that has such a plethora of faux-meat/protein options. The options include: Quron (contains eggs), Veat (not too well-known, but delicious!), Seitan (of course!), Tempeh (yum!), and Curry Pakora, a vegetable version of an Indian snack. Tofu can be added by using one of the colored sticks when taking your bowl up to be grilled. Also add the 'allergy stick' so your bowl will be cooked on a separate, clean grill.
The magic of Flat Top is how diverse the choices are. The sauces are labeled as vegan or not, and the wealth of vegetable options allows even a health-conscious vegan to eat well. Brown and white rice are also available. None of the desserts are vegan, unfortunately. Still, this place is excellent for the veggie and omnivore dining experience. It's a little pricey for the all-you-can eat bowl, but worth it after loading up on unlimited seitan, Veat, and tempeh amidst fresh veggies (and even some fruit - pineapples, etc.)
We've never had to wait more than a few minutes for a table, and the staff are usually very friendly and helpful, willing to offer sauce pairings for your bowl and look up ingredients if you ask. Only being open until 10:00pm on weekends is a little early in my opinion, but so be it. The availability of such good vegan fare in a town like Fort Wayne is worth some planning.
Pros: faux meat! * selection * vegan-friendly
Cons: hours * * |
