Review: Lotus Cafe offers a lame attempt to attract Encinitas hippies and spiritual types (I'm the former...sort of). The prices are large and the portions are small! $8.75 + tax for a meatless burrito without even giving us any sides?! C'mon! And while they try to gear the menu towards vegetarian-friendly dishes, please make no mistake, this is NOT a vegetarian restaurant. Moreover, I really dislike that not a single item on their menu was labeled as "Vegan". If they are trying to target vegetarians, why not graciously accommodate vegans too??
I tried the Tempeh Tacos. Disgusting. Lotus Cafe should sincerely be ashamed to serve food this gross! The two small tacos were not even luke-warm. The whole taco fell apart upon trying to pick it up. The corn tortillas were stale and store-bought. The sauce was so gross! And to add insult to injury, they lined the bottom of the tacos with COLD, slimy slivers of Follow Your Heart Faux Cheese. Everyone knows how gross COLD FYH cheese is...never serve that stuff chilled! If I were eating in the restaurant instead of taking it to go, I would definitely have sent it back.
Perhaps it was just a fluke...but at those prices, I will not be going back to find out.
Pros: Open 7 day a week until 9pm * Veg Options * Good location
Cons: Food tastes gross * High prices * Menu items not marked as vegan |

Review: This is such a gift for our community. The setting is calm, warm and clean like a temple would be. Plus the food is amazing with so many options for vegetarians and vegans. They have Casein-Free soy cheese you can add to anything and delicious vegan salad dressings to use on burgers instead of mayo, I think taste better than mayo. Oh and the veggie chili is the best I have ever had because its not made with TVP only legumes and lots of veggies. They switch their daily soups up so there is always a new vegan and vegetarian soup to try plus specials that change with the seasons. Thank you lotus for feeding our community with light and love!

Review: This is a really great place. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly and helpful staff. Wide and varied menu. About half or a little more of the menu is vegetarian, which is nice, and they have some meat also. Wish they didn't have meat at all, but at least they have many veg choices available. The tempeh tacos, chili, and soup were delicious, seemed fresh, and weren't too overpriced. I liked that they had filtered water with lemon available complimentary. They also have a good kid's menu. Will definitely be back here again to try more menu items.
