Type: Vegan, Japanese
Info: Serves two different vegetarian lunch sets (around 800 yen), plus cake and coffee. Menu changes everyday. Directions: Leave exit 4 of Nakazaki-cho station and turn around so the big road is on your right. Walk until the first intersection, the cafe is in a basement on the obtuse angle of the intersection, look for the Common Cafe sign or the board that says Cafe Millet and details the lunch sets (in Japanese). However, you can still find Kitchen Macridoo at the same place on Wednesdays and Thursdays, serving vegan lunches. Open only Tue-Wed 12-6:30pm. Price: Inexpensive.

Review: For 800 yen you get your pick of two lunch sets. The style is kind of home-cooking and kind of health-food -- occasionally some things are a little bland (you have to ask if you want sesame salt for the rice) but the majority of the food is very delicious. They use a lot of okara and there is usually an okara salad, which at first I thought was a bit strange but most of them are really good. The home-made tofu is great, but my favorite thing so far is probably the okara-shiso nugget.

Pros: good value * unique menu * vegan
Cons: * a few dishes are bland *

• It looks like they expect to return to their normal schedule for December. (Cafe Millet on TUE, WED, Kitchen Macridoo on THURS.). response by lemurcat
• It looks like Kitchen Macridoo has changed to WEDNESDAYS AND THURSDAYS for the time being. Don't bother going on Tuesday, as it is Cafe Mulot which is not vegetarian at all. Hopefully things will be back to normal once the Cafe Millet lady recovers from her injury.. response by lemurcat
• In September 2009 the lady who runs Cafe Millet broke her leg, so one of the other incarnations of the Common Cafe took over its time slot temporarily (Kitchen Macridoo) but when I went they were still serving vegetarian food.. response by lemurcat
• They do allow smoking but this isn't usually a problem because it isn't crowded. I've only seen other customers smoking twice, and unless you are really sensitive you can probably just sit on the opposite side of the restaurant.. response by lemurcat
