Review: On were on our first trip to Costa Rica and we had heard that the traditional national dish for lunch was the casado, which is basically a hodge-podge of food all served together on a plate. We figured there was no way we would find a completely vegan casado anywhere, but on our third day in town, we realized there was this tiny soda around the corner from our hostel, The Galileo, that seemed to have options on the menu for vegans. Sure enough, we found one of the most wonderful meals we experienced on the trip. Don't be shy to spring for the extra a get a guanabana fruit juice. It's worth it. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, and with our broken Spanish and his broken English, he understood that we were not just vegetarian, but that we were vegan. This is impressed us, because we have trouble getting the correct order served when we and our server both speak the same language. We chuckled at the Christmas decorations up in March and the laid back atmosphere. Plus, they stay open quite late compared to the other cafes in the city. This is a place worth seeking.
Pros: great food * vegan friendly staff * open late
Cons: * * |
