Review: The restaurant was much better with the old owners and it was vegan. It used to be vegan and was listed so here at HC and there is still a sign on the door saying it is. Some of the staff know what's going on and others don't understand much at all. The food has changed and I'm not convinced the soy meats are vegan since they've changed it. One of the employees told me he couldn't find vegan fortune cookies as cheaply as the one's they now serve. It's obvious they have changed many things on the menu. I miss the old food!!
Pros: tables available * lots of parking *
Cons: not sure what's vegan * not as good as before * |

Review: I've been eating at house of vege since it first opened, at one time i was so grateful that they existed. Although over the last couple of years i've found myself thinking why do i even continue to eat there. My advice is that if you are vegan don't waste your time or money. Seriously though the last time i ate there our spinach was served with a fly in it. This place has discraced its own name. And finally the fact that the House of vege was once vegan makes me feel they owe us vegans the respect of atleast telling us it no longer is.
Pros: seating always available * *
Cons: not honest * not vegan * language barrier |

Review: I've read most of the reviews here in which most are very helpful. My 16 year old son is a newly inspired vegetarian and I have heard some good things about "House of Vege" so thought I would do a little research. I noticed that a couple of the reviews here mentioned the "B" rating (which has since been changed to an "A"!) so thought I'd check it out. The link below is to the L.A.County Dept of Public Health - Environmental Health, where you can see the rating for this restaurant and others as well. It also explains why the received the rating they did. Even though there are some negative reviews here, we'll still try House of Vege very soon. Hope this is helpful!

Review: I understand the concerns about whether the staff and/or owners understand vegetarianism. Without someone doing a product inspection of the kitchen. (now wouldn't that be cool,,, once a year someone certified from Happy Cow could give a Thumbs up or down on the veggie restaurants. It wouldn't be 100% guaranteed, but it would be a step in the right direction. Eric, what do you think?)
After reading the reviews below about the fortune cookie having egg, the waitress said "NO", then another waitress ran over and said "YES, YES, it has HEGGG in it" Then I showed the first waitress where the "Hegg" was on the ingredients list. So there is some consciousness there. Not much, but some.
The food itself wasn't the best veg. Chinese, but it was in my top 40%. I've eaten at NUMEROUS veg Chinese restaurants.
The soup could have been MUCH better.
The portions were huge. On 1 dish, I literally ate it for 3 full meals. (it was a "fish" dish with seaweed wrapped around it.) I'm a very big eater, so I was impressed.
Pros: Portions and price * pretty good food * VERY FRIENDLY STAFF
Cons: consciousness of staff * * |
