The Ticho House is known as the premier vegetarian dairy restaurant in Jerusalem. When i speak to other restaurant connoisseurs in Jerusalem, there is quite a consensus about this and it is wise to call and reserve a table in advance.
It is also by far also the classiest dairy establishment in the capital. Inside the Restaurant there is live classical and other music to soothe and accompany your meal 4 times a week. I personally recommend the Garden seating though. The garden, which while not the most viscerally stunning, just has a magical quality and feel to it. In the winter they use gas heaters so you can sit outside in comfort.
The last time I was there, my family had The onion soup which is a slam dunk. It is served in a bread bowl and is absolutely delicious and by far their best soup. I, knowing how good the onion soup is, decided to experiment and ordered the underwhelming cream of mushroom soup, which tasted like it was poured out of a can of Campbells. For my main I had the stir fry with soy chunks and I do NOT recommend it. It was pretty lousy. The sauce was just soy sauce and it was like being trapped in a salt mine.
Overall though, I've eaten in the Ticho house many, many times and I have nothing but great memories there. The service can be painstakingly slow, and with some dishes it can be hit and miss, but if you know what to order this place will satisfy big time! Beyond the Onion Soup, I would recommend here sticking to Salads, Pastas, and Quiches. The Pastas and Quiches are amongst the highest quality in content and flavor that you will get in Israel.
Ticho house also does events in their garden and inside the restaurant they have a room for private celebrations. It is a great place to bring a date for a meal or just to sit over a bottle of wine. It is also the perfect place for a meal with family and friends. While Ticho is pricey and the servings can be slightly under-average, if you want high quality food and an a truly magical atmosphere to enjoy it in, then I strongly recommend basking the quaint grandeur of Jerusalem's Ticho House.Pros: Great for any occasion, Wonderful atmosphere, Very good content
Cons: Pricey, Lethargic horribly slow service
