Review: After an exhausting day of sightseeing, Buffet V offered a welcome respite. Although it was very busy, the noise level was pretty reasonable. Service was attentive and among the fastest I've had anywhere. My dining companion tells me the gents' lavatory was small but spotless. Decor is dark and classy, which lends an intimate feel.
The self-serve buffet includes both hot and cold foods, freshly cooked to perfection. Go hungry and start with tiny servings; you will want to try everything!
Buffet V is one of several vegan Chinese buffets which offer vegan prawn crackers, which I'm told are nearly impossible to find (I don't care for them, but my companion does), so look for those white circles stacked high near the fresh fruit if you have been craving prawn crackers since going veggie.
Pricing is dirt cheap, especially for London. Lunch is a bit cheaper than dinner or weekends, but we had change left over from a 20-pound note after our Sunday-night dinner.
If you are always in a rush when in London, do take advantage of Buffet V's proximity to the Tottenham Court Road tube station (in addition to great food in a pleasant atmosphere). I'll be back.
Pros: Yummy all-vegan food! * Fast service * Convenient to Tube
Cons: Some may find the space cramped * * |

Review: I've eaten at a lot of great vegan/vegetarian restaurants so I can be quite picky, but Buffet V not only did not disappoint but exceeded my expectations. I like that it is all vegan as I am actually allergic to egg and dairy so it's nice not to have to ask. Most options are gluten-free also. They do vegan versions of Asian foods with soy along with generous offerings of nuts, fruits, beans, and vegetables. I love the crispy seaweed and Singapore rice noodles. The soy "lamb" with broccoli has Middle Eastern spices and is delicious. The interior is pleasant. The restaurant is clean. Lunch is all you can eat for 5.50 pounds (as of Aug 2009). That is about as cheap as you'll find any food in London so it's a real bargain. They also have a variety of unique teas. Definitely give it a try.
Pros: Great vegan food * All you can eat * Inexpensive
Cons: A bit crowded but that's London. * * |
