Cat's Cradle
based on 2 member reviews
66 Meishuguanhoujie, Dongcheng District, Beijing
+86-133-66221228 Type: Lacto, Vegan-friendly, Organic, Chinese, Juice bar, Take-out Info: Features an extensive food menu in addition to coffee drinks, teas, and juices. Pleasant urban atmosphere and English-speaking staff. No alcohol or smoking. Open daily 11am-9pm. Although they are open 11am-9pm, they have only limited offerings during non-peak meal hours.
Unfortunately, this and most Beijing 'vegan friendly' restaurants have succumbed to the recent mass marketing of milk - and do not include the once-ubiquitous soy milk on their menu. So vegans who want coffee have to drink it black. Chinese Name: 香阳小筑(大佛寺店) Chinses Address: 东城区美术馆后街66号(内蒙宾馆对面) Price: Moderate.

Review: Cat's Cradle (or more obviously no.66 when you look at it) was a good choice for a nice lunch. The staff were very young and didn't speak any English. They got our order wrong, despite pointing at the name (which was also written in Chinese), but nevertheless the food was extremely tasty and a good size. Only problem would be that we wouldn't be able to order the same again if we went back as we don't know what we had!
Pros: Very tasty food * Generous portions *
Cons: Didn't get what we ordered! * * |

Review: I went here yesterday, and had lotus roots and dumplings, the food was really good. The shop is located quite close to the center of town (just a few blocks east from the north of the forbidden palace). In fact I wasn't even trying to find it when all of a sudden I saw a sign in English: "vegetarian restaurant". It's on a pretty big street and not a back alley, personally I prefer the feel of something hard to find, you feel more rewarded when you get the food ;). I had seen this place on Happycow, and decided to try it out. It's a smaller restaurant, and serves Chinese food with a few western items for those that are in the mood for something more from home. The service was good and I got my food fast. The restaurant is smaller than others in Beijing, when you go in you don't have the big Buddhist statues since it's a small restaurant that looks recently painted and furnished.
Pros: Easy to find * Good Food * Extensive menu
Cons: No fancy furnishings * Smaller * |
