Review: A friend and I visited Tham Na last night for dinner. It wasn't the easiest of restaurants to find as it was someway from the centre and not close to any BTS or MRT, so we took a taxi. The staff at Tham Na were more than happy to direct the taxi driver - it took us about 30 minutes to arrive from the centre of Bangkok. When you enter the restaurant it feels a bit like a French cafe/bistro, with small tables, background music and small groups of customers chatting away and enjoying their food. The tiles on the floor are also beautiful! We sat down close to the counter and the staff were very attentive - she apologised for only having 1 spare menu, but that was OK, we could share. All the menu is vegetarian but we were unsure which things were vegan as it wasn't indicated on the menu. The staff went through the menu with us explaining which items were either vegan or could be made vegan - really helpful! The first of our starters arrived not long after our fresh drinks. Angel fried mushrooms were good (if a little oily) and the tofu topped with 3 mushrooms was delicious! We also ate a fab pasta dish which included apple and chestnuts! Mmmm! Overall a good meal and we left feeling very full! Would have been great if there had been some vegan desserts on the menu ... maybe next time! Total cost for dinner and drinks for two was 450THB which is about $15 USD.
Pros: Extensive vegetarian menu * Friendly staff * Charming atmosphere
Cons: Long way out of centre of Bangkok * No vegan desserts * Vegan dishes not identified on menu |

Review: We've been coming to Bangkok regularly for over 9 years and had grown used to the adequate, rather rustic veg fare on offer. It was with great delight that we discovered Thamna, a revelation. The food is imaginative, varied and delightfully presented in comfortable surroundings. We've never had a bad dish here and particualrly enjoyed the Crispy mushroom balls with mustard yoghurt sauce and the Spicy pomelo salad on crispy wonton sheets.
Pros: Free wifi * gourmet style food * Centrally located
Cons: * * |
