Decent food for a decent value
Posted on 11 / 12 / 2008Firstly, Dont expect to find here out of this world food here that will tantalize your tastebuds. The food here is okay and vegetarian and in meat filled Bolivia this automatically makes it somewhat of an anomale. Another important facet is that the food and restaurant seem clean and In La Paz, where the street food has all sorts of bacteria in it, this is important and a rarity. The restaurant is buffet style and is located on the second floor of the Hotel Gloria. It costs 25 Bolivianos (which is about $3.60 usd) for a meal consisting of soup, salads, drinks, Juices, a main course and dessert. While a little over 3 dollars for a meal sounds cheap, (in Bolivia where food and everything is dirt cheap) it is a fairly average price. The food itself is decent. The salads were pretty good, but 2 out of the 4 were not vegan. The fried plantains, a latin delicacy, were delicious. I tried 2 main courses. The pizza had some strange toppings but was edible and the other entree was like an enormous potato thingy, kind of like a knish but filled with some odd vegetable goop. Neither were excellent, but both were edible. For dessert they have different fruit options. In general this place isnt so hot, but in Bolivia, where an all vegetarian restaurant is almost as rare as an icicle in the Sahara Desert, this place has to be appreciated.
Pros: VEGETARIAN!!! + centrally located, friendly staff, Clean/comfortable restaurantCons: Not particularly tasty, Only open for lunch, Set rate or 25 bs per person
Hi Veganpike, thanks for the good info on this restaurant. I agree that it is tough to find good vegan food here in Bolivia!
